Love Letters From a Stranger
I've been writing short stories and sending them to this email list weekly-ish for the last couple of months. Some (but not all!) of them are archived here if you want to see what they're like. They have involved mimes in trouble, zoo animals menaced by a malevolent force, and tiny bananas, among other things. Read some free stories and subscribe, if that's the kind of thing you'd like.
Meditation Stuff Blog
I've been meditating for over a decade, which isn't that long. But now I'm writing about everything I've learned, and I'm linking to all the books that got me to where I am.
Queefer Sutherland has a Lexistential Crisis
On the brutal art of roller derby.
"The whistle blows and total chaos follows—you run forward, try to run, are hit down in a quick business-like way, economically, before you manage a second step. You stumble up, no-handed, as practiced—better than expected—but already others are ripping past you, the whole pack is churning: you will be left behind. You are skating forward somehow, swimming towards safety, when you are walloped—there’s no other word for it—clear off the track. A soft ribbon is driven from you, half a spoonful, maybe, of urine..."
Small landmarks
Small landmarks is a book project that I've been serializing on Tumblr. The book combines photographs with notebook writings, mostly drawn from places I've lived over the past few years: Halifax, Montreal and western Newfoundland. The work is about walking, finding things, stringing small moments together into something more. [more inside]
The Point of Life is the Explosion of Experience Into Ideas
This is an article that puts forward a new theory of the meaning of life, one based on self-expression. It's the product of many years of thinking at the intersection of psychology, philosophy, and religion.
My words in your inbox.
For the past decade or so I've been off-and-on sending out various writing projects to subscribers' inboxes. I've now merged my mailing lists into one and have re-opened subscriptions, which had been closed since 2010. [more inside]
PITH: Extremely short stories
I wrote a book of 100 very (very) short stories. Each story is around 100 words. They're mostly all dark/strange/grim, but some of them are funny, too. I self published and released it this week. It's available as ebook, paperback or free PDF download and released under Creative Commons license.

Piquant - Discreet reads for Discerning readers
There is an enormous amount of free erotic writing on the internet, so signing up for a newsletter might seem a bit redundant. However, I thought there would be some advantages to a text only newsletter, so I developed one. (Note: some of the images on the website may be NSFW where you are). [more inside]
A book a day for a month.
Instead of trying and failing to write a novel in November I tried and failed to write the script for a children's book every day for the month. Please note: I cannot draw. [more inside]

100 Ways To Write Badly Well
Three years ago, I started a blog (as announced previously on Projects). Now that blog is a book, in both paperback and ebook form. This wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of MeFi. Thanks everyone!
Trabant #5, a zine about attending professional circus school
I just finished producing an 88-page zine about my experiences attending a nine-month professional circus training program last year. I've been performing circus since 2007 but recently went back to school for it. The zine describes my experiences training handstands, trapeze, etc. some 30 hours a week. Elation, discouragement, health challenges, self-care, the creation process. Things you may know nothing about (circus!) and everything about (feeling passionate about something). The zine also includes 20 handstand self-portraits. It's $3. [more inside]

BrainTripping: Markov-chain your own path through the words of famous people.
Step inside the "brain" of Jesus, the Pope, Kurt Cobain, or Tupac to come up with your own sentences and stories. Words are suggested based on the language patterns of the brain (and you are limited to their vocabulary). There's a learning curve, but once you get past it, hilarious times can be had. Read my introduction post or check out the tutorial to get started. [more inside]
The Bedouin and the Camel - A Variety Adventure Serial

Tulpendiebe
Tulpendiebe is the companion tumblr for my novel Kino, dedicated to Weimar Republic art, people, music, and events -- especially German silent film, along with anything related to the world of the book (which I mentioned here before.) And because copyright, piracy, and remixing are among the themes of Kino, I am inviting anyone to participate and send their own artwork, music, photos, and writing inspired by the tumblr. You can see submissions so far here.

RPGWrite - an inspirational writing tool
RPG Write is a tool to help you beat writer's block, by giving you RPG-style incentives when you write. We've all been there, stuck playing an RPG for a few more minutes, "just until I level." Many of us have been grinding that last bit of XP when we should have been writing! Rather than fight it, we've decided to cave to the compelling nature of RPGs!
It's Not A Sprint, It's A Marathon.
Everyone knows that the key to becoming a better writer is consistently writing every day, but that's often easier said than done. A kind of Couch-To-5K for writers, It's Not A Sprint, It's A Marathon is a one-page site that details a simple method for creating a daily writing habit. [more inside]

The 24 Hour Novel Project
Dream of writing a novel but can’t find time to write? How about setting aside just 1 day? I gathered a team of authors to compose a novel collaboratively in a day (May 28th) and you can watch via the web as every word is composed in real-time. The cover art will be created that day too, which you can observe via live video stream. The collaboration culminates in a free Creative Commons licensed e-book available for download the following day. Wish us luck. We'll need it.

The Highlights
The Highlights is an online arts journal from Brooklyn, NY. Beginning as a response to the journalistic bent in art reviews, the publication was created to give artists an outlet to engage in unconventional criticism. Since that time, we have enlarged the format to include experimental text and digital media projects. These works are an extension of the artists’ own practice and consist of image-based essays, original videos, interviews, as well as fictional, virtual, biographic, and diaristic writing. All completed projects are stored permanently in the online archive where they are available for browsing. [more inside]

The Grim Reaper his own bad self apparently keeps looking me right in the eye, but keeps saying, “Not now, dude.”
A budding collection of unusual essays.
Life (and love)
As a result of life getting in the way, I've really let my writing lapse in the past few years. I'm finally working on a bigger project now, and I wanted a separate venue to write short, unrelated vignettes as a way of flexing my writing muscles and getting back in the habit of putting something down on paper every day. This Tumblr is that venue.
The Free Zone Reader Network
A multi-threaded writing project and collaborative world-building exercise. Stories on main site, world-building and interactive collaborative write-and-share on associated message board. Set in one of those terribly derivative futuristic *punk dystopias. Punkpunk, in this case. Just launched so at the moment the only contributors are myself (I've done all the posts on the blog so far) and a couple of friends (on the forum), but it's open to anyone whose imagination is sparked by it.
The Daily Ping -- 11 years of toilet talk
Fellow mefi'er hijinx and I just relaunched The Daily Ping in time for our 11th birthday, starting our 12th year of writing every day (on alternating days). Topics are usually light and often center around Oreos, toilets, and TV shows from the 1980s with occasional forays into technology and other pop culture stuff. [more inside]

Next Wave 2010 - Text Camp Reader
I was part of a creative writing mentorship as part of Melbourne's Next Wave Festival 2010, which presented multi-form experiential art. Our task was to respond to how well we thought the pieces reflected the year's theme No Risk Too Great. My piece, No Risk Too Great: Comfort Zones, discusses the absurdity of doing things outside your "comfort zone" while still being protected in the confines of a hipster-peer-filled arts festival. (Some images NSFW.)
My mother's novel
In the late 1960's, my mom, young and naive, was arrested entering the US with a little bit of pot. She was thrown into a Texas jail, and threatened with years behind bars. This experience ended up being the basis of an experimental / poetic novel she wrote during the '70s, which was meant to be published in the '80s, but things fell apart and it never actually made it to press. Shortly after that, my parents divorced, and then a few years later, my mother was diagnosed with MS. The novel has been sitting on the back burner for a long time, but is finally available. (It's like time travel.) [more inside]
Dead Advice: A Guide to Living (From the Dead)
The premise of this site is that you have recently died, and now you're penning a letter to the rest of the world. The subject matter is open, and can be whatever you'd like: a list of things you found important, a series of regrets, or an open letter to the young. There is only one requirement. Every letter submitted to the site must begin with the same first sentence: "Now that I'm dead, I want to tell you a few things." [more inside]
Spillway: Card-Carrying Neophilia
Spillway, my blog, is now one year old. It's a portal to my writing and journalism. May contain traces of serial killers' back gardens, George Orwell, short stories, gangland civic pride, security infrastructure and zones, love for an underpass, London retro-futurism, Swiss minaret alternatives, how childhood movies shape the world of tomorrow, Koolhaas and Tatlin, Poundbury and insane asylums. (Why Spillway? Why "card-carrying neophilia"?)
A special place in hell for bike thieves
Who knew Dante had originally written about a special circle of hell for bike thieves in The Inferno?
Circle Into Square Online Magazine
I've been undertaking a series of interviews at Circle Into Square called 'Everybody Knows You're Not from Here' for about the last year. Subjects interviewed live in the Portland, OR, area and include Ian from the music blog Musicophilia and mastermind of the 1981 box set, the married duo of writer and comic artist Sara Ryan and Steve Lieber, rockers Wow & Flutter, and a dude we all know who really likes donuts. I've just started another series called 'Not Quite 20 Questions' with the inaugural interview being Kliph Scurlock, drummer for The Flaming Lips. [more inside]
Chit-Chat of Humor, Wit, and Anecdote
