My beard can lift random objects… and the human spirit.
I’ve been grooming, conditioning, stretching, and toning, and now my beard is finally ready for the big time: starting this Friday and every Friday thereafter, my beard will lift one pound for every hundred dollars raised for Chicago's Off the Street Club, until we raise $5,000 or the hair is violently ripped off my face.

Me as the Villain
A series of composite photos of various movie and tv villains with my face. I started doing this a while ago, with Stalin and Saddam and used them as avatars on various sites, but I may have lost those to the ether (I didn't upload them to flickr). Doing these was a fun distraction from the usual development that I normally spend my free time on.

seedmagazine.com
We have just redesigned and relaunched a complete overhaul of seedmagazine.com. The site is now based on ExpressionEngine, and we could hardly be more pleased with how it all turned out.

Art Browser
Here's a site I made for browsing Art history and different artists associated with movements. Sort of a mash up of sources. Hope you like it.

Just some old movie posters...
On a recent trip to Birmingham, Alabama, I picked up a good number of old (1960s and 70s) movie posters at a used bookstore. Just got around to photographing them the other day, and I made a Flickr set. I know, it's just a Flickr set, not a big deal, really, but there are some pretty funny and (I think) somewhat rare ones, including some early sex movie posters that are pretty quaint. Just thought some of y'all might find the set interesting!

Phil Jern Photos
I've created a website to display and, potentially down the road, sell my photography. I'd welcome constructive feedback from any and all of you!

Bret Turner Music
A website/blog devoted to my music. Every day (or so), I post a song, new or old, rough or polished, instrumental or wordy, typical or experimental, and give a little backstory and details about the tune. I am currently in the process of recording an album and hopefully putting a band together, and will occasionally post songs from those sessions in the studio as well. Folky, with lots of fingerpickin' guitar, banjo-ing, and singing, and some occasional DIY percussion.

The Hole in the Wall is now a book!
Previously posted here and here, The Hole in the Wall—an epic underground adventure of two cats with sticks for arms and legs—is now available as a book. Printed by Lulu.com on 100 pound, full-color stock, it looks awesome and you will enjoy it. Also available as a download.

The Town That Won't Stop Burning
A while back the Daily Beast contacted me, asking if I would work with them on a project about Coatesville, PA, a tiny, rough former steel city where 50 arson fires were set over the course of 15 months. This is the resulting article and video. I'm particularly proud of the video, don't skip it.

Photographer's Licenses
Inspired by this fellow's story (SF Muni has since apologized) and many others like it, I designed these official-looking and fictitious Photographer's Licenses in the event you're harassed by law enforcement or security officials attempting to enforce fictitious laws.

If you have Adobe Illustrator, you can download the vector art EPS file and print your own. You'll need a photo of yourself, and OCR or an equivalent-looking font to fill in your personal information.

Department of Homeland Security Photographer's License
San Francisco Muni Photographer's License

Porchlight: A Literary Magazine
I wanted to create an online literary magazine that presented fiction, poetry, and non-fiction in concert with good design.

Red Row Studio - Photography blog and gallery
A project I've been meaning to finish for ages - a home for my photography on the net. Thanks to some fellow mefies for advice. This didn't end up quite how I thought it was going to, but I'm pretty pleased with it. Any comments/suggestions welcome.

There Are Cats in This Short Film
There Are Cats in This Book is a picture book by Viviane Schwarz. Recently the publisher, Walker Books, decided to make her reading it into a short YouTube movie. I got involved doing back-room things (mostly re-recording and editing Viv's narration, also adding the sound effects and the excellent music track by Matthew Robins, as well as a few small video edits and preparing the final cut).

Hidden Los Angeles
This idea has been in my head for a long time, I wanted to start a site that focuses on the Los Angeles that the natives know and live in... not the fantasy (both good and bad) that people see on tv. So far so good. Yay! I can already tell it's going to be a fun project. :)

Angry Octopus Comics
My daughter, almost 8 years old, decided to create a webcomic as one of her summer projects. The premise: an octopus who always ends up angry. After having her pitch several strip ideas, we decided updating twice weekly for the summer made sense. She creates some art, I doodle a bit, then stitch everything together in Photoshop. We'll experiment with different methods (chalk, collage, maybe LEGO) throughout the summer.

Hirsute History
Tee Shirts featuring the hair of famous people. Not like 'Britney' famous, more like important. Well, mostly. Oh, and some beards too.

Terrapin Gardens Farm
When I registered the domain in 2000 I had no clue I would fall in love, get married, leave DC, move to Vermont and start a sheep and llama farm with the same name. But here we are, raising heritage breed Navajo-Churro sheep—along with two guard llamas—for their beautiful fiber; nine chickens for their eggs and bug eating abilities; and two crazy Boston Terriers for companionship on cold, snowy, winter nights ... and ability to make us laugh.
