The Sound of Young America
"A public radio show about things that are awesome." This is my radio show. In conception, it's a more fun, younger-targeted version of Fresh Air, with some original comedy mixed in. Right now, I'm moving from "this is a fun hobby" to "I just got an email from Public Radio International."

Free streaming music videos today!
At my work, we're stress-testing a windows media streamer, and would appreciate it if you guys and several thousand of your friends would watch some streaming music videos over the next 24 hours or so.

The service, IceTV, is going to ultimately be like a cable company targeted to handheld devices (cell phones, pdas, etc) that use the windows media player, but for the sake of this test, all you need is a PC running windows and a fat enough pipe to play a ~150k stream. This url will be active until about noon tomorrow, Phoenix time. Please give it a spin, and if you get a lousy (or none at all) signal, please let me know in the comments: http://www.icetv.net/test.wvx The station being broadcast (with their approval) is an independent station here in Phoenix, and the content is an eclectic blend of music videos and movies. Thanks for your time and input!

Captured Spirits--My Sixties Portfolio
I took these photographs from 1965 to 1970, mostly when I was a Navy photographer. While they have been published in photo magazines in Brazil and Spain, I've never shown or published them here in the United States. I simply placed these images at my flickr site, but hope to eventually put these and others, especially a six-year project in Brazil, at a Web site. In the comments of the photo of Ben Black Elk, I posted a story on the portfolio in general, for those interested. I have a free site at Zyworld, but I don't seem to have enough space there for this sort of thing. I could use some suggestions on photo web pages.

Courtney and Max Make Monsters
Watch as Courtney and Max attempt every project described in Dick Smith's 1965 book "Do-It-Yourself Monster Make-Up." First up: The Ed "Big Daddy" Roth-styled "Weird-Oh"!

Machine Gum - comics by me!
A series of comics and experiments in funny pictures. Machine Gum is an outlet for me to play around in the medium of comics. It's not a webcomic per se since it's not confined to a singular narrative or format; it's more like a playground where I can have fun with the medium and with drawing silly things. Fun for the whole family!

ki(10)z!!!
A veritable tiny treasure trove of centered text and songs ranging from awful to awesome await! ki(10)z is my band. Which includes me. My New Year's resolution was to try to write a song a week, but I seem to have fallen quite far behind. At any rate, these are some songs.

Gridface Msg Board
My music webzine Gridface is ten years old in March. I just launched a discussion board for electronic music and underground hip-hop. There are forums for artists and labels to post press releases and tour schedules as well.

Everyday Hogwash Collaboration
All those little irritating ways that companies stick it to us are a mainstay of blogging and stand-up comedy. In Everyday Hogwash, we'll try to turn that into a kind of game for the blogsphere: a three-month collaborative/competitive blogging conversation, with daily prizes and a juried grand-prize. Like most collaborative projects, it would be better with submissions from your blog.

Three words, five minutes
Need inspiration for writing, or just a writers-block stretch? When you click "Go", you'll get three common English words as inspiration. You'll be given a five minute timer. Write. You don't need to use the words if you don't want to. When the time is up, nothing happens. You can stop or continue. You can save what you've written, or not. You can reload the page for more inspiration.

Photo Quickies - tips, tricks & gotchas about photography.
I searched the web for a blog dedicated to learning about photography (rather than equipment news), and didn't really find any. So I started my own. On Photo Quickies, I'm blogging the neat tricks and lessons I've learned to share with other budding photographers or those in need of refreshment. Your tips are also definitely appreciated.

Voices in the Dark
"Audio books and stories read aloud by real people for free!" is what it says on the front page, and that's what it is. My wife and I, and a few other folks, have recorded dozens of short stories and a few longer ones (including Cory Doctorow's Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom) and put them up for free download in high quality MP3 form. Up since December 2004.

Project Porchlight
How hard can it be to get everyone in Canada to make one change?

Project Porchlight is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit group that aims to deliver one free energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulb to every household in Canada. If we are successful, the results will be amazing: the resulting reduction in pollution from energy saved will be the equivalent of taking 66,000 cars off the road.

Our test launch in the neighborhood of Ottawa South has been a success, with more than ten thousand bulbs delivered to homes by hundreds of volunteers. Extensive media coverage and our new website have spread the word far and wide, and people have contacted us from all over Canada, asking for their neighborhood to be visited by Project Porchlight next.

Change is within reach. Visit us for the full scoop.
