The How Not To Kill Your Baby Official Growth Chart Of Doom
Have you ever read a parenting book that left you feeling inadequate and/or terrified? In other words, have you ever read any parenting book whatsoever? Then you might enjoy my new book How Not To Kill Your Baby, a parody of all those crazy-making pregnancy and parenting manuals. It comes complete with a poster-size detachable Growth Chart of Doom, which will tell you if your baby is big enough to survive an encounter with an angry capybara. For the story of why I decided to write the book, you can read my guest post at the New York Times Motherlode blog.

Oscar Contest 2012
I can't believe it's been TEN years of doing this! As always, I'm hosting an Oscar "Pick 'Em" contest over at my website. Every year the winner receives a custom, one-of-a-kind sock monkey creation. (Previously: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011.) This year's prize is everyone's favourite avenging Swedish goth hacker Lisbeth Salander. Yes, I made the Sock Monkey with the Dragon Tattoo. She has piercings, combat boots, a Macbook, and a golf club. (She's also my first soft toy that may qualify as NSFW.) Everyone is welcome to enter the contest!

Miss Gender — A Video Podcast About my Transition From One Gender to Another
Miss Gender is a video podcast created by Jay Frosting and me about about my transition from male to female. I’ve been contemplating my gender identity since I was 13 or 14 and, now in my mid-30s, I’ve started to get my head around the reality that I’m transgender.

Market4a
Product review sites are great and all, but they usually don't allow you to ask the specific questions that are on your mind, and they almost never show you social info: what do friends own? So a buddy and I built a site that does that. It's fundamentally Q&A format and it bends over for Facebook if you want it to. You can use it to get recommendations, ask technical questions, or just poll friends to find out what they know. Swing by and drop some knowledge. Feedback appreciated!

DOOM CAKES
This is a blog researching the cinematic tradition in which any beautifully decorated cake serves as a harbinger of imminent catastrophe (often including the destruction of said cake). I also wrote an article about the phenomenon for Random House's film site, Word & Film.

How Are You Not Dead?
The Grim Reaper his own bad self apparently keeps looking me right in the eye, but keeps saying, “Not now, dude.” A budding collection of unusual essays.

World Read Aloud Day
I serve on the Associate Board for the global literacy organization, LitWorld. Tomorrow is a big event we've spearheaded, World Read Aloud Day. World Read Aloud Day is an international event that motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words and stories, by encouraging them to participate in a global movement to advocate for every child's right to literacy, safe education, and access to books and technology. In honor of the event, LitWorld is inviting all participants to read with loved ones and new friends from now through March 9 and tally their minutes to reach the goal of 774 million minutes in honor of the 774 million people worldwide who cannot read. We've got events happening in all 50 states, over 55 countries, and online. We'd love more and it's not too late to sign up on the website to do something to share the gift of literacy with the world. It's a really big day for us and very exciting and I hope the MeFi community will join in.

careerpowerups.com. For jobs that don't suck.
As a burnt out, cynical, bitter programmer from the games industry, this is the site I _wish_ had been around when I started out looking for work all those years ago. It's a combination of scraped and paid-for vacancies, covering a whole bunch of games companies and recruitment agencies from around the world.

Life, only with more attractive people. And product placement
Life in Photoshop delivers daily snark and humor on sexist and strange magazine ads. Think Catalog Living meets Photoshop Disasters. With a side of socio-political commentary.

The Highlights
The Highlights is an online arts journal from Brooklyn, NY. Beginning as a response to the journalistic bent in art reviews, the publication was created to give artists an outlet to engage in unconventional criticism. Since that time, we have enlarged the format to include experimental text and digital media projects. These works are an extension of the artists’ own practice and consist of image-based essays, original videos, interviews, as well as fictional, virtual, biographic, and diaristic writing. All completed projects are stored permanently in the online archive where they are available for browsing.

Stand up for Wisconsin: A map of solidarity rallies all over the country
This is a map and list of events, rallies and protests related to the opposition to Scott Walker's budget bill in Wisconsin and in support of unions all over the country. It came about because I couldn't find a single, quick source for what was going on in my area. Right now it's a manually updated Google spreadsheet that's periodically (manually) fed into a batchgeo map, but I hope to implement some of the suggestions offered in this askme. I wanted to wait to post this until it was prettier, but time is of the essence and I'd like to get it out there ASAP.

SXSW Social Media Bingo
I made this multiplayer bingo game to help you keep your sanity at SXSW (or any other place you find yourself drowning in social media buzzwords). Invite your friends to a game, then click off egregious jargon as you hear it spoken around you. Get five in a row and you "win"! Or lose, depending on how you look at it.

Hey Foxy!
So anyhow, a friend of mine decided that the problem with romantic dating sites is that they're not really sex-positive enough, and adult dating sites don't seem people positive enough ... and if you want to sign up as a couple pretty much anywhere, forget it. So we started working on it and a year later, here it is - adult dating for singles and couples without the sleaze.

The Daily Patdown: Your Daily Dose of Security Theater
Just launched a new photo blog about TSA patdowns. Seeing ordinary people treated like criminals is sad, disturbing, and -- surprisingly -- sometimes funny. If you are outraged by patdowns, please share this link via Twitter, Facebook, etc.
