Faustian Bargains: Sold Your Soul? Tell the World and Let the Healing Begin!

"From time to time in life, we all find ourselves striking what feel like little Faustian bargains--deals with the devil--to get by. Faustian Bargains is an online community centered on the idea that revealing starts the healing! Only a few rules: No judging. No shaming. No real names or identifiable specifics. Share your story of corrupted personal integrity with us, finally get your sins off your chest, and help others like you feel a little less ashamed of being human in a world that's occasionally less than perfectly humane. Join our community and finally find the understanding, love, and acceptance you've always wanted and deserved in a safe space with benefits!" [more inside]

His daughter is a Jedi. She's missing. He's dead. And the Star Wars Universe is real. The Padawan Project.

Officially, this is all fiction, but Thomas would insist otherwise. Read his story. Examine these drawings by his daughter Mercy (who he claims has been missing for months.) Can anyone help figure out where she is?

Rook Trader, an interesting and occasionally alarming internet game

A game where you play as a bird, or possibly as a chess piece, or somehow both. You want shiny and warm things for your nest. Fly to other nests and negotiate trades for your existing shiny and warm things. Accrue wealth. Crash the economy for fun and profit. [more inside]

Twitter-based Pluto "Facts"

In commemoration of the impending flyby of Pluto by the New Horizons mission, I have created a twitter account, inspired by other such "fact" oriented accounts as @CatTipps, @FactsAboutEggs. Will publish a fact or two about Pluto every day up through the NASA flyby, or as long as the inspiration lasts.

All That You Can Be

A satirical recruitment ad calling for trans women to join the military. I wrote and directed this to protest the recent prioritization of trans inclusion in the armed forces above and beyond all of our myriad concerns, something which happened on the say so of one billionaire with absolutely no dialogue with the larger trans community. Enjoy.

Egress Methods

Paul Simon claimed that there must be fifty ways to leave your lover, but in his famous song he named far fewer than that. Egress Methods, a twitter bot, fulfills the promise that Mr. Simon could not—and then some—tweeting a randomly generated formula for lover-leaving every few hours, from now into eternity. Dinosaurs!WTF?

This is my blog covering the Conservative Dinosaur Readiness Movement. It is a satirical blog about a right wing survivalist group that is paranoid that dinosaurs are going to return somehow and conquer earth. While it is satire, I also try to incorporate good science when I can, I interview legit people in the paleontology field such as Kirk Johnson and Peter Larson. [more inside]

Herebe: all you need to get started is a great idea.

There are dragons in Silicon Valley. Real, flapping, scaly ones, with teeth and claws; the kind that'll burn your Lower Haight apartment to cinders before you can pivot your way out of there. What's more, it looks like they can be harnessed and sold as a service. Can you say "opportunity"? Herebe is a short novel about Silicon Valley, startups, the battle for ideas ... and dragons. It's my first, and I would love MetaFilter's collective opinion. You can buy it on Amazon.com.

My debut novel Nothingness

Years in the making, my first novel Nothingness is finally available as an e-book on Smashwords. It's a darkly comic satire on America drowning in delusion. A family is dissolving in a community turning more paranoid with every additional inch of rain that falls. It's like Don Quixote meets Lord of the Flies. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll believe anything. [more inside]

R Money Music Video

I made a music video envisioning Mitt Romney as a rapper named R Money who likes to rap about how wealthy he is. There is an interesting synchronicity between some aspects of hip hop culture and wealthy media figures like Donald Trump and Mitt Romney that make for a funny juxtaposition, I think. [more inside]

The How Not To Kill Your Baby Official Growth Chart Of Doom

Have you ever read a parenting book that left you feeling inadequate and/or terrified? In other words, have you ever read any parenting book whatsoever? Then you might enjoy my new book How Not To Kill Your Baby, a parody of all those crazy-making pregnancy and parenting manuals. It comes complete with a poster-size detachable Growth Chart of Doom, which will tell you if your baby is big enough to survive an encounter with an angry capybara. For the story of why I decided to write the book, you can read my guest post at the New York Times Motherlode blog. [more inside]

Rooftop News — independent, startup video news site

The goal is to cut through the noise of the daily news cycle and provide a breath of fresh, smart and funny air. In video form, mainly. We launched just over a month ago on a very small scale. The plan is to expand production over the next months, both in terms of volume of output and style of material. And hopefully take down a congressman or senator or two, while we’re at it. And make you laugh.
