Male Tears: A collage comic book about thwarted privilege
A cursed relic of our revolting age, Male Tears remixes vintage comic book imagery into a verbo-visual slurry for your shame or amusement: forty pages of thwarted privilege, humiliating failure and unchecked emotions exploding into weeping and/or violence.

Conceived in 2016 as a dumping ground for an endless series of generative collages I was producing via Processing script ( now available as a webtoy of sorts), Male Tears grew into an exercise in "understanding" the ways in which white male grievance is being weaponized politically and culturally.

It grew in scope and sickness as the seemingly-mockable Red Pill idiocy gave way to Gamer Gate and then the Alt-Right and our current international nightmare. Through the unstable and ill-advised co-existence of empathy and ridicule, Male Tears traces the various paths masculine humiliation and shame take on their way, inevitably, to rage and violence.

But it's funnier than it sounds!

Combining vintage horror and romance comics (mostly unearthed via the wonderful Digital Comic Museum--itself discovered via Metafilter!), Male Tears also takes on:

- Bone theft
- The total and willful destruction of the natural world
- The occult origins of sadness
- The one true spatial arrangement of cursed stones for healthy living
- Mind control
- Libertarians
and much more! It even briefly utilizes my previously-featured List of All Names.

Physical copies are for sale, but if any interested parties MeMail me over the next couple days I'd be glad to send you a (slightly-abridged) electronic version, in honor of the role Metafilter played in exposing me to some of the horrifying ideas I have attempted foolishly to explore.
Role: artist, author, designer, publisher

Holy everloving crap AndNeverWell. This is a beautiful amazing thing that you made. I got my copy last night and I TORE through it! It gets a permanent place of honor in my house and I look forward to reading it again many times. It's goes from hilarious to Too Real (tm) in a blink, and I will treasure it for the art that it is. Thanks for the postcard too!

Thank you for your kind words, Krazor! I'm glad to know it did not simply land on your doorstep with a wet thud (nor, to my knowledge, have you turned me in to the authorities).
