Inchoatery, an album by Josh Millard

I spent the month of February writing and recording a rock album, as part of the RPM Challenge. It's done and I'm pretty proud of what I pulled off. It's available for streaming and download on my new music site, music.joshmillard.com, and there's a bunch of album notes available on the site as well.

Josh Millard, Musician

My new music blog and archive. I've spent the last several weeks collecting and organizing several hundred recordings I've made by myself and with others in the last fourteen years or so, and this is the result. [more inside]

Circle Into Square Online Magazine

I've been undertaking a series of interviews at Circle Into Square called 'Everybody Knows You're Not from Here' for about the last year. Subjects interviewed live in the Portland, OR, area and include Ian from the music blog Musicophilia and mastermind of the 1981 box set, the married duo of writer and comic artist Sara Ryan and Steve Lieber, rockers Wow & Flutter, and a dude we all know who really likes donuts. I've just started another series called 'Not Quite 20 Questions' with the inaugural interview being Kliph Scurlock, drummer for The Flaming Lips. [more inside]

The 100 best songs of the decade

As you might have guessed from the title, I'm counting down the best songs of the decade -- thanks in no small part to the enormous help many of you gave me in an AskMetafilter question several months ago. I've been posting 10 new songs every week (with embedded video for almost every song), and I'm up to #11 now. The top 10 will be gradually rolled out from Monday to Friday of next week. (There are also 100 runner-up songs in addition to the top 100.) [more inside]

Velato: A music programming language

This a language that uses MIDI, instead of text, as source code (it's NOT a language used to create music). I tried to allow enough flexibility that you could compose something that both sounds good and works as a program. [more inside]

Manifests - an album from Josh Millard

I recorded an album in February (as did a few other folks), and I've put together a site to house it. There are song pages with lyrics and background (e.g.); I've scanned my notebook for the month and provided some how-I-work commentary; and there are some drawings to accompany the whole thing as well. The album is available to for listening and download from the site. Please tell all of your powerful and influential music-industry friends.
