?? DAYS OF DISORDER ??: 5 videos, curated daily

A videoblog where I post 5 videos a day, Monday to Friday, mainly selected from Vimeo and YouTube. The content is not very focused, but it usually reflects some of my interests: experimental video art, installations, new technologies, music visualisation, cymatics, geometry, contemporary dance, microscopic or macroscopic images, stop motion films, music videos that are visually interesting... Console Obscura - a retro gaming culture and history podcast

Console Obscura is a podcast dedicated to video games and the people who play them. Ephemera, nostalgia, absurdity, history, culture, arcana and trivia are all fair game. If you remember what a new power pad smelled like, or Ganon's laugh sounds like, OR If none of that rings a bell but you enjoy a group of funny children of the 80s talking trash, this podcast is for you. Game on!

Subrosa.io - encrypted messaging and calls in the browser, that's actually usable.

There's many encrypted IM apps, but few of them are actually usable. Subrosa is a web app that abstracts away all the cryptographic details*, resulting in an app you can share and use with everyone. It's open source (of course), and supports IMs, voice and video calls, group chats, and more. *: Yes, real end to end encryption, not 'encrypt with keys the mothership knows'. [more inside]

Underviewed: Searching YouTube Using Default Video File Names

Most every camera or mobile device uses some kind of default naming convention (iPhone: IMG_1234.MOV, GoPro: GOPR1234.MP4). This site searches YouTube for those default file names, and serves up videos that have a low number of views. Because these videos still retain their default file names as titles, it's unlikely that they've shown up in any searches. And it's very likely these videos haven't been seen by all that many people. Airline Icarus — experimental mobile site

I got a commission from Toronto's Soundstreams to make an experimental mobile site inspired by their new opera Airline Icarus. The result uses various fancy javascript video implementations to play around with interactive sound and video on mobile. Best viewed on mobile; it's a heavy site so your mileage / performance may vary.

Missy Elliott's "Work It" collides with Beyoncé's "Partition"

WORK partITion is a video mashup of two songs that somehow got stuck in my head as one. It ended up being kinda tight. There's something cool about Bey's exploitation fantasy cut with Missy's empowerment fantasy.

DANGER RADIOACTIVE

This is the YouTube playlist to turn to if you want to say WTF over and over again, or inflict WTF upon other people. Concentrated weirdness, painstakingly curated to move fast and be completely inexplicable. Best experienced on Shuffle, and in small doses. Many clips salvaged from folks' old MeFi posts and comments! But really, heed the warning in the title, this can alter your brain chemistry if not handled with care.

The Horror of Can't Stop Rock Lobster

This is totally the coolest thing I've ever done. It's somewhere between really agonizingly long music video tryptic and some weird new form of performative documentation and b52s fan enactment... or maybe none of the above. All segments were filmed at Maros Gallery, beginning in april, 2012 in Chris Martin's installation and ending in July, 2012. They let us paint those dayglo walls white (WTF: 8 coats!) and gave us an exhibition (later). Finally we got our two and a half weeks worth and made something insane: an open film set with 147 works of art. There was bullit, and it was bloody, and i am still bruised. No works of art were harmed (permanently) in the making of this video. [more inside]

The Sensitive Screen

An interactive installation using motors and the amazing, touch-reactive Mimosa Pudica plant, The Sensitive Screen is a hilariously slow-moving, living screen. When motors brush certain plants, the leaves collapse inwards -- these function as "off pixels" against the "on pixels" of the open plants. Since it takes about ten minutes for the plants to reopen, The Sensitive Screen moves at the blazingly fast speed of 6 frames per hour. A little more on the project can be found here.
