Random Recipe Project: A YouTube Channel
I've got about 150 cookbooks that I've collected over the last thirty years but in the age of instant recipes on the internet I hardly ever use them anymore. Last fall, despite not really knowing anything about creating good video, or editing even better video, or how to have a successful YouTube channel, I decided to begin a video series of me cooking one randomly selected recipe from my collection. Guess the AI Jukebox artist
AI Jukebox is a fascinating project from OpenAI that uses cutting-edge neural neworks to perform all sorts of musical magic -- it can take a clip of a song and continue it in a new way, sing text lyrics in any artist's voice, make a song sound like it's being sung by someone else. My favorite? Tell it to generate music by an artist without any other info, and it will produce a gibberish song with nonsense lyrics... that still sounds 100% real and just like the actual singer or band with their unique style.
You can hear instruments, melodies, sometimes an audience, the breathing of the lead singer -- but the whole thing is generated completely from scratch by the AI, not with samples or digital sounds. It's not flawless -- some of the songs ramble, with glitchy effects or a mutating voice. But these just add to the vibe, like it's from a dream or a parallel universe.
I went through their database to find the best examples of these tracks from the most famous artists, then turned them into an audio quiz on Sporcle -- complete with AI-generated art of the artists I made to serve as hints in the second round. How many of the artists can you name? [more inside]
Violent Penguin (Series One)
Violent Penguin was a shortlived educational European children's cartoon from the recent past (although the country of origin and original date of broadcast are unknown). Long thought lost, the complete first series has recently re-surfaced on youtube. Created by the popular children's author (and multi-instrumentalist) Toby Vok (best known for the children's classic Spiders Are Wonderful), Violent Penguin ran for seven very similar episodes (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7), in which the papercraft penguin interacted with plasticine people and taught them all various lessons in less than 30 seconds an episode. Alongside the seven episodes, there are two helpful compilation videos: The Complete Violent Penguin (all seven episodes all in a row), and The Concurrent Violent Penguin (all seven episodes all at once). “Can’t Feel Your Pulse”
A medical school music video parody of "Can't Feel My Face" by The Weeknd. (These parody music videos are a thing at med schools right now, and mine is no exception.) Simultaneously kept me sane and drove me crazy while I was learning cardiology over the past few weeks. The lyrics are in the video description on the youtube page. If you have any familiarity with med school, pay attention to the details on screens and whiteboards in the video for additional jokes.

Underviewed: Searching YouTube Using Default Video File Names
Most every camera or mobile device uses some kind of default naming convention (iPhone: IMG_1234.MOV, GoPro: GOPR1234.MP4). This site searches YouTube for those default file names, and serves up videos that have a low number of views. Because these videos still retain their default file names as titles, it's unlikely that they've shown up in any searches. And it's very likely these videos haven't been seen by all that many people. DANGER RADIOACTIVE
This is the YouTube playlist to turn to if you want to say WTF over and over again, or inflict WTF upon other people. Concentrated weirdness, painstakingly curated to move fast and be completely inexplicable. Best experienced on Shuffle, and in small doses. Many clips salvaged from folks' old MeFi posts and comments! But really, heed the warning in the title, this can alter your brain chemistry if not handled with care.

e.m-bed.de/d
A constantly updated collection of the most illuminating and extraordinary videos online.
My friends and I enjoy sharing videos we like on facebook and stumbleupon but wanted something more self-contained, so decided to build a website, inspired by sites like devour and bestofyoutube. Whilst the idea may not be original, I think that the quality and range of what we cover makes us stand out. As well as including new finds the site aims to archive interesting videos, with the aim of being the most comprehensive collection of what we like online (+ with the hope that other people will find the site useful as well).
We tend to feature a wide range of stuff but generally avoid adverts, videos of kittens or people falling over. Many thanks to the MeFites who have posted links to videos that have been put on the site.
C+C welcome as well as suggestions for videos that should be added.
