Franklin the Ladies' Cat
I finished an animated comedy short this summer, about a lovesick cat, which I am now turning into a YouTube series. Franklin the Ladies' Cat combines animation with live action, and episode 1 is up! Hope you'll help me spread the word if you like it.

Franklin is an enterprising cat looking for love in the big city. Despite remarkable tenacity and imagination, his overtures to human women go largely unnoticed -- though that's not how
Franklin tells it! As interview shots give way to on-the-street documentary footage, his confident embellishments are revealed to be out of sync with reality.

I did like it, but I'm not sure what it is. I'm not sure I'd call it a "comedy"; you seem to have captured a particular point of view, sad but constitutionally optimistic, a little tragic but hopeful. I worry if you try too hard for laughs you'll lose what works here.

Thanks! You may well be right that "comedy" is not quite the right word, although I guess my opinion on comedies is that they're too narrowly defined. Many movies that are considered comedies in the US are often not engaging to me at all, because they try to be constantly uproariously funny without being grounded in a more delicate, grey-tones kind of context that seems somehow "true." I suppose I'm hoping there is a "quiet humor" to what I'm doing.

Anyway, if you see this, could I ask you what you would like to see improved in future episodes? I don't want to lose what works, but I do want to make what works work even better!

I don't know enough about you or your ideas to know exactly what you're trying to accomplish. I say, just do it, get another short or two together, and discover more as you go.

Fair enough, amtho. That's pretty much my strategy. Thanks for your feedback.
