Two old AF baby ARMYs unbox their first BTS light bombs & wax philosophical

Pirate-Bartender-Zombie-Monkey and I made a video about how we went from "vaguely aware that BTS exists" three months ago, to "unboxing our official BTS light bombs and setting the alarm to wake up at 4AM on December 31 for the Big Hit Entertainment 2021 New Year's Eve concert". Along the way we talked about a number of things, including music, culture, history, mental health, and more.

How I Became A 44 Year Old Rapper

After a night of being teased for performing both the Running Man and the Roger Rabbit, I bet my wife and her friends I could make a legitimate hip-hop video and make $10 from strangers on the internet. I decided to completely commit to this bet for the sake of pride, art and the culture of hip-hop. I present to the fine folks of Metafilter......."Never Bet Your Money On Another Man's Game" [more inside]

WAFFLES! A weekly radio show/podcast on varying themes

A different theme each week! MeFite Kitteh and I co-host a Saturday-morning radio show at CFRC in Kingston, Ontario, and for over three years we've picked a weekly theme and explored it through music, in every style imaginable. I've been pushing the archives to podcast (legally, under a SOCAN 22F tariff) for a while now. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher or Google Play (search for Waffles Radio)! The site also archives a summer radio fill-in/podcast on video game music and composers, Virtualosos, which ultimately wasn't sustainable.

Guided By Voices song title bot (@favoriteGBVsong)

My first Twitter bot project! I trained a Markov chain generator on ~2500 Guided By Voices / Robert Pollard song & record titles, and set it loose to generate fairly believable GBV song names. Song titles from the wonderful Guided By Voices Database.

Media/digital literacy, with snarky puppets.

An update on what we've been up to at The Media Show, including an interview with the head of punk label Kill Rock Stars and arguing with a puppet version of Richard Stallman. [more inside]

@RandomDuets

Every few hours, this Twitterbot picks two random artists, then pairs them up with a random song to cover. The result is a randomly generated duet that doesn't exist...but totally should.

Egress Methods

Paul Simon claimed that there must be fifty ways to leave your lover, but in his famous song he named far fewer than that. Egress Methods, a twitter bot, fulfills the promise that Mr. Simon could not—and then some—tweeting a randomly generated formula for lover-leaving every few hours, from now into eternity. R Money Music Video

I made a music video envisioning Mitt Romney as a rapper named R Money who likes to rap about how wealthy he is. There is an interesting synchronicity between some aspects of hip hop culture and wealthy media figures like Donald Trump and Mitt Romney that make for a funny juxtaposition, I think. [more inside]

John Roderick Plays a Potluck

This winter, we invited John Roderick of Seattle band The Long Winters and the Roderick on the Line podcast over for a potluck dinner. He played a few songs, told some stories, and ate all of the food. A few of those moments have been put together into a video collection called "More Than Shapes," named for a song and a story from that evening. [more inside]

...And The Only Prescription is More Sleighbell

My girlfriend was complaining that some of the music we'd been listening to lately wasn't Christmas music. So I devised a simple formula to make any song into a Christmas song: 1) Take any song, 2) Overlay a track of sleighbells, 3) Enjoy a newfound Christmas classic. [more inside]

The Electric Lightsaber Orchestra

My friend Matthew and I started coming up with music acts that ought to exist in the Star Wars universe. Before you know it, we had an entire imaginary music festival. And a poster. And a domain to host the poster. I think we got a little carried away. Anyway, if you've ever dreamed of seeing Darth Cab for Cutie share a stage with Kessel Run-DMC, then Tatunes is the festival for you.

"The Brothers Buffett" - The Combined Oeuvre of Jimmy Buffett and Warren Buffett

(They're not brothers.) I know squat about music, and jack squat about investing. But I'm taking every Warren Buffett letter (there are 32) and every Jimmy Buffett album (there are 32...kismet) and breaking them down on a weekly basis. And I'm investing $32,000 and writing a song a month to show what I learn. And, in general, being a jackass about it.
