Turn all book covers into wallpapers
For the last two weeks I have been creating desktop wallpapers based on book covers. The idea was sparked by a very old reddit post where one user asked why there weren't any high resolution images of book covers. I saw that and figured, "Why not high resolution, wallpaper ready versions of book covers?" And since they didn't exist, I started to make them.

With algorithms subtle and discrete, I seek iambic writings to retweet
Pentametron 2013 (pronounce the year "two thousand and thirteen") scans seven million tweets or so each day, in search of those that happen to be in pentameter - and then it retweets them. It digs up five to ten of these per hour, making a sort of endless sonnet from the vast collective chatter of the Net.

Free Philosophy Courses
A while back I whipped up a guide to free podcasts and online resources in response to budget cuts in the US and UK that have begun to threaten the existence of philosophy departments. It's by far the most popular thing I've ever written. This new page is intended as a continually updating version of that one-off post, and I'd appreciate advice on how to structure it and suggestions on good resources you've found.

Better Strangers: A Podcast about Conversation
I'm fairly socially awkward and really have a tough time talking to people. Conversation, especially with new people, is a stilted and uncomfortable affair. So what do I do? I make a podcast where I only talk to strangers. Will I get over my fears? Will I figure out how to not pause awkwardly and go "ahhhh" in silent moments? Time will tell!

The top 10 greatest classical composers
... according to my not-so-authoritative, highly personal opinions. Includes YouTube clips for each composer and a bonus list of "honorable mentions." Inspired by the New York Times series by Anthony Tommasini.

A look inside the nearly completely empty 8th Ave post office in NYC
New York's Farley Post Office building is about to be converted into Moynihan Station, an extension of Penn Station. Nearly all of the postal workers have been moved out, leaving the enormous, five-story block-encompassing building nearly totally vacant. A last chance to see...

Wikidirections
Wikidirections is a wiki to help you get from A to B. We're a human mapping service, but with a twist. Google Maps will give you (sometimes) precise driving directions, but they won't tell you which is the cheapest, or safest, or most scenic, or quickest way between two points. Should you take the train from Vienna to Salzburg, or is the bus cheaper? That's where Wikidirections comes in. Wikidirections is geared towards world travelers, written by world travelers. We won't tell you how to get from your house to the drug store, but we will tell you, for example, how to get from Spain to Morocco quickly, cheaply, and without getting ripped off. While Wikitravel's focus is on the destination, Wikidirections focuses on the journey itself.

Ephemera Magica
My Father & Grandfather passed away last year. I inherited a few cigar boxes of old magic ads, books, and tricks from the early 1900's. Every day I scan a new page, book, trick, etc. and try and try to learn a little about it.

HelloGrandad.com
Hello Grandad is a collaborative blog between a writer and an illustrator. We duel with each other in an attempt to freak the other one out - responding with words to an image or with an image to a sequence of words. The result is a trippy fusion of surreal descriptions and indescribable images - a voyage through confused minds. We've been going for a few weeks now and are ready to share our work with the world. Hello World! Hello Grandad!

Resurrected Recipes
Resurrected Recipes is devoted to researching and recreating recipes that are no longer in vogue, but were familiar to our grandparents, or even our great-great-grandparents and beyond. Many old recipes are very tasty, and it’s a mystery why they’ve been forgotten. Others have been forgotten for good reason. We’ll try them and find out which category they belong to.

The Screening Room
We've been trying to come up with a way to make it easier for people to find all the great filmmakers and web series producers on the web without having to sift through 10,000 YouTube cat videos, what we came up with is The Screening Room which is a running directory of high-quality web television and movies complete with reviews and suggestions.

Dead Eyes Open: How I Screwed Up The Zombie Revolution
I meant to write a genre-shattering zombie comic. What I actually wrote was an overambitious sprawling mess that started off well and devolved into complete incoherence. Now, with the publisher's permission, I'm blogging the entire run of my comic book Dead Eyes Open, with page-by-page notes and a particular focus on how things went horribly, horribly wrong in the writing process. First page here.

The Thumping Guide to New York City
I'm making a map of all the publicly-accessible objects in NYC that make exceptionally cool sounds when you thump on them with your fists. Or at least some of them. I've just started the collection, and hope to receive a lot of user contributions to fill out the map.

Blog Reverser
Enter the blog reverser. It does what it says on the box, though only for blogspot blogs currently. I can't say how many times I've come across a new blog and wished there were some easy way to read it from beginning to end rather than in Memento-vision. Every time this happened, I would turn to google, thinking "surely other people feel the same way, surely there's a web-app for this." Eventually I just decided, screw it, and wrote my own.
