Modern Medici is a new means of funding independent art and creative projects, designed to bring together artists with early-stage patrons who can help them get things off the ground.
Part Kiva, part Kickstarter, part venture capital, Modern Medici is designed to solve a problem that kept coming up again and again in the art-related funding world. Where I live, the arts funding game is a total racket, and MM is designed to use the transparency of the internet and web-based social media to directly connect artists and patrons. (I'm still looking for a bit of back end coding help if anyone's interested...let me know! thanks!)
