The top 10 greatest classical composers
... according to my not-so-authoritative, highly personal opinions. Includes YouTube clips for each composer and a bonus list of "honorable mentions." Inspired by the New York Times series by Anthony Tommasini.
As I mention in the introduction, I followed Tommasini's rules: no one who belongs more to non-classical genres like jazz or musical theatre (so Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and Stephen Sondheim aren't eligible); no living composers (Arvo Pärt is out); and no one from the early Baroque or earlier periods (Monteverdi, Palestrina, etc.).
