The Sound of Young America: The TV Pilot
I made this TV version of my public radio show with the good folks at Current. It features interviews with Patton Oswalt (Comedians of Comedy, King of Queens, Ratatouille), Ben Karlin (exec producer/head writer of The Daily Show & Colber) and Maria Bamford. Also: my dog Cocoa.

Oscar Contest 2009
For the seventh year running, I'm hosting an Oscar "Pick 'Em" contest over at my website. Every year the winner receives a custom, one-of-a-kind sock monkey creation. (Previously: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008.) This year the prize is a pair of Batman and Joker sock monkeys. (That Joker monkey is hands-down the most disturbing thing I've ever crafted.) Everybody's welcome to enter!

My New Comic Site
Well, my comic – Loose Parts – has been around for awhile but when my syndicate cut back on its web presence, I decided to build my own. This is the first site I ever created. Let me know what you think ... or what you'd like to see.

Henchman's Helper
Henchman's helper now has its own site. This is a thing I was inspired to make by an active desktop item that was floating around a long time ago. The idea is this is the online version of that giant wall that the bad guys in movies, evil scientists, mad doctors etc. stare at when they plot. It's got a sinister feel to it.

Things Not McCain.
A site where where you can download stencils and stickers in support of things and people who would make a better president than McCain. Like Lil Wayne or Frasier Crane. Or Shirley Maclaine and the L-Word's Shane. Even David Blaine.

Garkov -- Garfield + Markov chains
Garkov is a comic strip generator that uses Markov chains to synthesize new Garfield strips based on transcripts of several hundred existing strips. The output varies nicely from plausible to surreal to downright incoherent.

Steve Jobs Facts
Much like Chuck Norris Facts... but with more mock turtlenecks and style. Add facts, vote up your favorites, and vote down your least favorites, browse by recent, ratings or random... all the good stuff.

Sky is a Dog
I started a blog about the rescue dog we adopted 10 days ago. This is mostly for friends and family, and the rescue organization people who made it possible for us to get Sky, but members here who have dogs, or are involved in rescue or fostering might be interested. I'm recording her transition, and, as a first-time dog owner, including info that I'm finding about issues like food, health, training, and whatever I learn about along the way. Woof.

Musings of a Metafilter Spammer
Anybody who visits Metafilter regularly knows the drill. Someone signs up for the singular purpose of spamming the Metafilter frontpage, makes their mandatory three or four throwaway comments before being able to do so and is then beaten with the banhammer by our ever diligent moderators. By their very nature, these throwaway comments aren't the most significant contributions ever to be posted to Metafilter... until now! My new blog, 'Musings of a Metafilter Spammer' compiles the thoughts of each spammer in one single place, so you can read such thoughtful musings as "Nice!", "Wonder where I can get one?" and "Wow" before their posting rights (and their account) were forever deleted. And in doing so you'll get to laugh at the sheer simplicity of some of these asinine comments, and maybe stumble across some of the otherwise decent threads they used to make them in. A longer term goal is to use tags to document what these spammers are linking too, giving us a picture of what motivates someone to waste their $5 in a futile attempt at spamming one of the best communities on the internet.

Rough Equivalents: We Do The Silly Math So You Don't Have To
Ever wondered how much 100,000 kilometers of bologna slices weighs, how many pickled peppers are really in a peck, the horsepower in a Twinkie? Three times a week I ask these questions and then go find the answers. I just added a new calculators page where you can calculate distances in pennies, AA batteries, or squares of toilet paper, or you can find out how much you're worth if you're worth your weight in gold, spam, pretzels, or crude oil. It's lots of geeky fun. Hope you'll come along for the ride.

Mulder's Big Adventure
Join us on a magical journey as Cortex and I watch all 202 episodes of the X-Files. It's going to be a lot of alien conspiracy fueled blogging-- thankfully, we're mighty witty.

Statements to Save Burma
Turned my latest blogsite into a project to post statements protesting the situation in Burma. Wendell has already made his statement in the comments section, linking to a great post on his site. Please take a moment to visit and post a statement, or contact me via MeFi mail or regular mail (in profile and at my blog) and I will post your statement. You can also post it in the comments section. (Comments are modified, btw, no trolls) I will also post a link to your site in the side bar if you want. Let's show the world how much MeFi users rock! This is open to anyone, not just MeFi users, but please identify yourself as one when posting/writing. Thanks!

Save the Los Angeles Public Library
This is a grassroots community site initially launched to protest a proposed $1-per-book inter-branch loan fee, a plan which was tabled in direct response to 875 eloquent emails. Yay! But the L.A. library is still in dire straights, with devastating cuts threatened to its budget, which was already among the lowest in the US. If these cuts go through, they will result in closed branches, curbed book purchases and database and periodical subscriptions and unemployed librarians. Please send an email in support of a well-funded library, wherever you happen to live. These messages are being read by the Budget and Finance Committee as they consider what services Angelenos will have to learn to live without. The bookworms, librarians and families of Los Angeles thank you!

METAFILTER WILL KILL US ALL
A fun little thingbot i made for April fools. It's a mad-lib type of site where you put people's names into the sub-domains and it creates a story. It was made to give to your friends for a laugh. The neat thing is it will grab images from flickr.com based on the words you punched in. all you have to do is type your.friends.namae.willkillusall.com into the address bar and away you go. Here's a few to get you going:

Infochimps.org - A Free Almanac of Open Datasets
Exploring rich data is fun — but finding it, formatting it, and tagging it with metadata is drudge work barely fit for a trained chimp. And if you've gathered or cleaned up a large dataset and want to share it, you face two troubling prospects: a) no one will find it, or b) everyone will find it.
Infochimps.org (FAQ) is a project to assemble and interconnect the world's best repository for raw data -- a sort of giant free almanac, with tables on everything you could put in a table. Just as wikipedia will help you find out something about everything, infochimps.org will help you find out everything about something. 30 years of daily stock prices? Box scores for every major-league baseball game? Every wikipedia infobox, each infobox type in its own table? 50 years of global hourly weather data? All the tables from the US Census Statistical Abstract? Those and many other datasets large and small -- and you get them to play with, in whole, on your machine: no sandbox or restrictions. We've just recently launched: so some of the more exciting datasets aren't live yet, and there's a bunch of features still being added. There's plenty of good stuff for people to enjoy there already, though, and everything we build is and will remain free and open, so check it out. If you're interested in contributing data, or in helping to grow this project, please contact us.
