I'm (just barely) starting to blog about data for families and households. One of the first pieces I want to do is about potty training, and there's some gaps in the existing literature that I'm hoping to address by collecting some data from parents on when and how they did potty training. If you've potty trained a child *within the past year*, and feel like sharing how it went, I would be most appreciative if you do this 5 minute survey. Payba¢k is a game designed to help teens understand the costs of college BEFORE they begin applying. We made it to address an issue many families face: Kids have no idea how much college actually costs. Parents are super uncomfortable discussing finances with their kids. So too often, nobody talks, kids apply to schools they can't afford, parents stretch themselves too thin and everyone ends up disappointed. [more inside]

I had a baby this year, and we had a LOT of trouble with breastfeeding and pumping. I used basically every baby app I could find and found most to be frustratingly bad. So I made my own, and after 6 months of development (during naps no less) it went up on the App Store today. It works for nursing, pumping, or bottle-feeding moms, and even supports twins/multiples. And it is designed to be used one-handed. [more inside]

For the past year and change, I've been sending my two sons two school with custom lunch bags that I make for them every day that they're at my house (i.e., half of the time). I've painted, drawn, collaged, cut, and stenciled. Sometimes I make an image based on a historical event that happened on that date; sometimes the boys request a particular illustration; and sometimes I just go with my muse. I guess there are a handful of parents doing this in various ways, so it's not the most revolutionary thing ever, but I'm pretty pleased with how a lot of the bags have come out, so I thought I'd share.

I've been keeping a blog that details my experiences as a parent of a child with multiple disabilities. In 2012, I started interspersing a series of articles that are a set of simple projects that any parent can do to help their child with Down syndrome (or any child with gross or fine motor issues). Finally, in a bout of craziness, I have signed up to run the Falmouth Road Race in order to raise money for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress, an organization that has been immeasurably helpful to our family and so many others.
