The Tapestry of the Search for Terrestrial Intelligence

I took some degraded low quality audio from a youtube video of a copy of the Voyager Golden Record, and turned it into a 44 yard long tapestry, now on view at Science Gallery Dublin. I'd been obsessed for a couple of years with the ghostly imagery I'd recovered from the crappy audio - you can almost see the message from Earth hiding in the static just beyond reach - and I'm really happy with how it turned out. Lots of pictures and info at the blog post!

OUR AUDIENCE INCLUDES

SAD CATS • PURCHASERS OF SPACECRAFT • MACHINE INTELLIGENCES WHOSE ID SUGGESTS THEY MAY BE USERS OF ICHOR (I made a web toy that generates short descriptions of very specific demographic groups, and saves the ones people click on.) [more inside]

Mk Mrc Grt Gn! A Disemvoweling Twitter Bot

Inspired by a tweet from (metafilter's own) Maciej Cegłowski, I made a dumb Twitter bot using Glitch one night that disemvowels 45's mouthspew on Twitter as if he were a dumb troll trying his best to annoy the mods. The resulting tweets are collected at @Dsmvwld_PTS. [more inside]

Like ships passing in the night

I wrote an article on my Gamasutra blog about how Pac-Man can move through the ghosts without getting caught. It's an excerpt from my book Bug Voyage, in the current Storybundle, which tells about glitches in classic games while offering a smattering of computer science ideas along the way. It's kind of a change of pace for me, it has little to do with roguelikes, but it does explain how you can crash any Galaga machine without putting money into it. [more inside]

Glitchometry

In Glitchometry, I manipulate simple shapes (black squares, circles, triangles, stripes) in a sound editor, breaking them down into new forms. The earliest work in the series is here. The tumblr is where new work appears. [more inside]

GLTI.CH Karaoke

is a virtual jukebox oozing with time-delayed, glitchy fun. Streaming live over the web, London and Kumamoto will be joined in a sing off to end all sing offs. The first GLTI.CH KARAOKE event will laugh in the face of the nine hour time difference, of poor bandwidth, bad lip syncing, and terrible foreign language translations. All that matters is that the interwebs keep running and the participants keep on singing. From our first event we will encourage a whole series GLTI.CH Karaoke happenings. Using webstreaming software our eventual aim is to link up multiple cities across the globe for an all-out, Noon til Noon, 24 hour Karaoke marathon. This means we need YOU to help host future events, with all proceeds raised going to The Japan Society Tohoku Earthquake Relief Fund. [more inside]
