PrepaidAfrica Discussion Series
The Prepaid Economy: African edition began as a means to track notes on the rise of Africa as an investment opportunity back in January 2010. Today it has over 28,000 readers on Tumblr, engaging an audience of young Afropolitans. We will be beginning a new series of discussion posts where engagement from our readers is encouraged. This Friday (25th January) we will be having our very first moderated conversation and the topic at hand will be “China’s presence in Africa.”
If there are any particular article links or thoughts that you would like to see addressed in the discussion, feel free to share them and we’ll be sure to integrate them into the post. We look forward to hearing your input and hosting a productive conversation on the effects of China’s presence in Africa. Your moderator will be Beulah Osueke, currently Masters Degree student at LaSalle University, Philadelphia

For Great Justice - My Justice of the Peace blog
I was elected justice of the peace in my small town in Vermont. I'm not official until February. I started a post-a-day blog about what's involved in being a Justice of the Peace, weddings, JP history, that sort of thing.
GIF and circumstance
Firefly Chinese (Tumblr)
A friend and I are working through the Josh Whedon TV series Firefly and translating the Chinese phrases in each episode. We post video clips from the show and audio clips of us pronouncing the phrases along with our non-expert analysis of the word usage. We've posted everything from the pilot ("Serenity") and we're now working on episode 2 ("The Train Job"). Hopefully we'll finish up in the next month or so but I figured we mind as well share now as folks all over are already celebrating the show's tenth year anniversary.
Animated Jimfs
Over the summer I picked up a 35mm camera that takes four images in sequence on a single frame. Naturally, the next step was turning the best (or at least the most interesting) of those images into very brief, rather rough, animated gifs. I publish these gifs on my blog, Animated Jimfs.
My Big Box Of Nostalgia
I've got a box full of old stuff. Let's have a look at it!
Conversus
My interviewing website, called Conversus, is a place where people can tell any story they want. My experience interviewing includes as a radio, television, print reporter and as well as a freelance videographer and writer, and through my work as a public affairs officer. Because I have talked to hundreds of people during my career (maybe thousands), I have a good sense for what motivates people to share, namely asking a simple question and then, listening. I have had many five minute conversations with strangers who's stories could've been made into indie film sagas, only to have them disappear never to be seen again. I think these interactions are the stuff that fuel us and give us empathy for each other. [more inside]
Celebrity Synesthetics
My girlfriend has a strange synesthetic reaction to celebrities' faces. We are collecting them for posterity.
Do Go On
1990s video game magazines are (rightfully, perhaps) remembered with little more than ridicule. But those of us who grew up with them still love their overly aggressive, poorly layed-out and sometimes puerile charm. Tune in for erudite commentary hilarious one-liners, found vaporware footage and more!
Mars Wiggles
Stereoscopic wiggle GIFs from Mars Rover imagery. [more inside]

Fuck Yeah Hotel Hallway
I stay in a lot of hotels for work, and have become fascinated with the bizzarre carpet patterns often found in the hallways. I have collected them here for your viewing pleasure.
Tulpendiebe
Tulpendiebe is the companion tumblr for my novel Kino, dedicated to Weimar Republic art, people, music, and events -- especially German silent film, along with anything related to the world of the book (which I mentioned here before.) And because copyright, piracy, and remixing are among the themes of Kino, I am inviting anyone to participate and send their own artwork, music, photos, and writing inspired by the tumblr. You can see submissions so far here.
[Citation Needed] - Free Kindle book
[Citation Needed] - The Best of Wikipedia's Worst Writing is a collection of some of our all-time favorite entries from the blog of the same name. It has over two hundred examples of so bad it's funny Wikipedia writing with commentary from me and Josh Fruhlinger (from the Comics Curmudgeon blog.) And best of all, it's free for the Kindle for the next few days!

Blocked on Weibo
Chinese words like foot fetish, Islam, and march are or were blocked on Sina Weibo, China’s version of Twitter. [more inside]

NPR Fresh Air Tumblr
This is a Tumblr I started which goes behind the scenes of my office. (I work at a public radio show in Philadelphia.) I try to post stuff about upcoming guests as well as posts that fit in with the aesthetic of the show. I have a lot of fun with it and thought I'd share it with Metafilter. (There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff about public radio.)

Sad Girls On ESPN
A single-serving tumblog (because the world needs more of those) that follows the odd trend of ESPN and other sports networks showing pictures of sad-looking girls as filler whenever the home team is losing.
It's not high art or anything, but it's fun. I do the caption writing and theme designing, the sad girls are either my captures or from elsewhere on the internet. My brother daniel striped tiger also occasionally contributes on captions.

Your Hipster Meme Is Completely F---ing Played Out
My attempt to turn some of the existing LOLHIPSTERS sites on their ear by way of deconstruction. At least, that's the highbrow explanation. At the very least, I want to satirize the mocking of my hipster brethren around the world.
Dreamview

Life (and love)
As a result of life getting in the way, I've really let my writing lapse in the past few years. I'm finally working on a bigger project now, and I wanted a separate venue to write short, unrelated vignettes as a way of flexing my writing muscles and getting back in the habit of putting something down on paper every day. This Tumblr is that venue.
Here, I Taped This!
I'm borrowing terrapin's cassette deck so that I can digitize all my old cassette tapes. Among them are various mixtapes, as well as cassettes chock full of songs I taped off the airwaves in Boston in the early 1980's (probably while doing my homework). Here's where I share my tapes with you -- and I invite you to share your old cassette tapes with me, before they deteriorate or that little fuzzy nubbin falls off the cassette. I have about forty of my own tapes to go. Hope you enjoy my first foray into Projects!

Random photos on the highway
I've been wanting to do a photo essay of drivers that sit too close to the steering wheel for over a decade. When I finally got around to rigging something up, the moments of serendipity were way too fun to limit the project to such a narrow theme. I give you Passenger Window. [more inside]
