Every Non-Word
A bot that tweets random combinations of English syllables.

The denotation of a word grounds it; when a word has no denotation, it is a field of possible meanings, with affect, associations, a look and a sound. This project randomly combines syllables and presents these possible words without context.

The syllables come from running a hyphenation script on the dictionary. They are recombined respecting order: first syllables are used at the beginning of the word, last syllables always at the end. The bot never tweets doubles, but the most common syllables in English are the most likely to appear.

Project is named for aparrish's everyword project

I love this, and I love the nod to aparrish's project, and basically I'm starting to feel like we should have a Metafilter Wordbot Jam some time.

This could be a great resource for fantasy writers/world-builders.

Like maybe pull together some handy basic tool stuff for folks new to text processing and twitter bot-crafting (that latter would actually useful for me), so that it can be more like "here's some basic tools and some datasets, ready to go" rather than "invent everything from scratch, go". And then just, yeah, collective dorking out.

That sounds fun!

Re: A Twitter tool to make it easy to tweet: I just quickly put together a command-line tool that'll post a tweet. The thing is, explaining how to get it running is tough without knowing what the userbase knows.

If this jam becomes a real thing, maybe we can poll people on what they're comfortable with so we can find out what level-of-detail the tools' explanations need to go to.

I am very happy to have started following this because I've already gotten a lot of joy from it, but "nonbro" totally should be a word.

Somewhat appropriately, twitter threw in an ad for some startup called "newrow".
