Less Cancer, More Cake: A Charity Run Fundraiser
On Oct. 10, my birthday, I will be running in the Portland (OR) Charity Half-Marathon, in affiliation with the American Cancer Society. I am selling photos I have taken in New Orleans, where I have lived for the past four years, in order to help raise at least $1,000 and hopefully reach my goal of $1,500 (and am also accepting direct donations). I will be officially running in memory of the late Emilie Lemmons of St. Paul MN, a dear friend of mine who died in Dec. 2008 after a long battle with sarcoma. She was 40 years old.
Emilie's story has an Internet/blog universe connection: She ran a blog, Lemmondrops, whose "cancer chronicles" won her a large and devoted following in the months before she passed away, and which she updated right to the end. She was employed as a Catholic publications writer, but had done some freelance work in the Twin Cities area and elsewhere, including web-only work.
Meanwhile, please note that my charitable site is running under the same domain as my regular photography site, Cosmic Ray's. I have never sold photos via that site before, although I hope to do so within the next year. I would be lying if I said I don't see this charity effort as learning experience, although that's not the primary concern, just a probable benefit. Incidentally, I am also thinking of adopting this WordPress template for my main photo site. (Also please note that the title is a play on the American Cancer Society own slogan for its DetermiNation program for athletic event participants, "Less Cancer, and More Birthdays.")
Consequently, feedback would be welcomed, but ... I would appreciate any help for the cause, regardless. Thank you!
