Run the Solar System: a free audio-driven 10k virtual race
Run (or walk) from the Sun to Neptune in 10k! My company created this smartphone-driven educational virtual race for the British Science Association on our new Racelink platform. It comes with kilometer-by-kilometer narration by Dallas Campbell, who does fun science and space things on TV in the UK, and it's 100% free to enter - all you need is an iPhone or Android.

A New Running Map
The first of a serious of neat little side projects from my usual work on MapBox and the like - a new kind of map (I call it a 'squiggle') and a new pretty map.
But, hopefully a lot more than that - I documented the process of creating the map in serious detail, and it goes over re-teaching myself high school trig, writing a scraper for Garmin Connect, trying to fake being a real artist, and figuring out some new map interactions. There's more to come, and ideally this convinces the big groups that hold onto our data to let us get at it to make more beautiful things.
Less Cancer, More Cake: A Charity Run Fundraiser
On Oct. 10, my birthday, I will be running in the Portland (OR) Charity Half-Marathon, in affiliation with the American Cancer Society. I am selling photos I have taken in New Orleans, where I have lived for the past four years, in order to help raise at least $1,000 and hopefully reach my goal of $1,500 (and am also accepting direct donations). I will be officially running in memory of the late Emilie Lemmons of St. Paul MN, a dear friend of mine who died in Dec. 2008 after a long battle with sarcoma. She was 40 years old. [more inside]
