Across Africa for Love and Glory
My book Crossing the Heart of Africa just came out today. It's about retracing the 1898-1900 route of the British explorer Ewart Grogan from South Africa to Sudan. He did it to prove to his girlfriend's stepfather that he was worthy of marriage; I did it in part to dispel my own pre-wedding jitters. So it's an adventure-travel-history-romance-memoir. There's a photo gallery, animated map and excerpt. (For anyone who noticed a strange theme to my AskMe questions over the years - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 - this is why. And thanks!)

New York's Farley Post Office building is about to be converted into Moynihan Station, an extension of Penn Station. Nearly all of the postal workers have been moved out, leaving the enormous, five-story block-encompassing building nearly totally vacant. A last chance to see...

Marlowe the Monster
My current pet project is Marlowe, a sculpted webcomic/picturebook. It follows the life of a well meaning, slightly misguided, slightly shy, rather blobby monster with six eyes and two tentacles. Topics covered include asexual reproduction, (monster) civil rights, depression and lesbian sex(all SFW). Updates Wednesdays.

Submit a made up video game and I'll make your box art.
Every week, I ask the strangers of the internet to submit the title and short description of a video game that doesn't exist. I'll then draw the box art for someone's pretend game and post the results each Saturday. A semi-dorky blend of lulz-y photoshop practice and a heartfelt love for video games.

Facedowns
This is a thing my brother and my friend and I do. It began sometime in 2006 but was probably festering in my brother's synapses long before that. It's about this and that, and probably nothing at all. Facedowns are from over 2 dozen countries and at least 10 American states… and counting, of course.

MAGANRORD
It's a blog about the birds of Alcatraz! While most people associate Alcatraz Island with its history as a federal penitentiary, or possibly its prior history as a military fort, few are aware that it is now a federally-protected bird sanctuary. My close friend/coworker and I started this blog to bring more attention to that aspect (and also because we are total bird nerds). At the very least we have some awesome photos and video.
