Marlowe the Monster
My current pet project is Marlowe, a sculpted webcomic/picturebook. It follows the life of a well meaning, slightly misguided, slightly shy, rather blobby monster with six eyes and two tentacles. Topics covered include asexual reproduction, (monster) civil rights, depression and lesbian sex(all SFW). Updates Wednesdays.

These are really good. I especially love the facial expressions, which cannot be easy with so many eyes.

thanks, fishbike!

(i think it's easier with six eyes! heh.)

Added to my webcomic bookmarks list, in the subcategory of "Updates Weekly on Wednesday" which, with The Abominable Charles Christopher, Alien Loves Predator, Herman the Manatee, True Swamp and World of Hurt, is a pretty prestigious group. But Marlowe fits in just fine.

You had me at the difficulties of asexual reproduction.

There's a minor narrative with Marlowe's love life -- do you plan to mostly do one off panels, or is there going to be a more elaborate story down the line? Additional characters? A complex mythology that can be debated at cons worldwide?

theichibun - thanks!

oneswellfoop - i am honored to be in such company.

beerbajay - i didn't know that's what people might want. now I do!

think_long - a mix of both, but even the storylines will be done in a series of one shot panels. there are a couple additional characters that have been mentioned but not seen(his mother and sister, for one), and I dunno about complex mythology, but I'll answer anything. :)

Also: a non-single-page view. With a more complicated webcomic it makes sense, but since you're trying to build up characters one frame and sentence at a time, it's be nice to browse more with fewer clicks. You're using wordpress so I assume this is pretty easy to do.

And also: I think you need a larger line-height in the text! It works stylistically to cram it together in the other graphics but for the caption it's a bit much. Sorry if this sounds like complaining; it's only because I care.

I've barely customized the comicpress theme for wordpress that I'm using, and word is that a multiple comic view is one of the things it doesn't handle that well. The moment I get some extra time, I'll dive into it and see what I can manage. It's a good idea!

Point taken on line height too. I personally like the look, but I can see that it needs tweaking when the letters actually touch each other!

(much thanks - this sort of feedback is REALLY helpful!)

brilliant! I've seen this in Mefi Projects a couple days now, I am so glad I clicked the link. The photography is absolutely superb!

chairface - I've thought of it, but since I myself do not qualify for LASIK, I'm punishing the figments of my imagination with the same.

aeroboros - Thank you! I'm really glad you like the photography because I don't actually know much about it and the validation is reassuring. I did finally get an entry level DSLR, and I hope to finally read that ridiculous manual at some point. The last three or so are shot with my new camera - before that is all my tiny Canon Powershot(rest in peace, little camera) and its pretty amazing digital macro function.

I took a picture of the behind-the-scenes workings of Marlowe, if anyone's interested! It's also a picture of my cat.
