THE FLYING BIKE - an audio drama
My friend and I have created a 5-part audio drama about how a really bad Hollywood movie gets made. The story is told sequentially, in self-contained 30-minute pieces, from the perspectives of the writers, the producer, the script supervisor, the van driver, the assistant editor, and an audience member after the movie comes out. The first 30-minute piece took six months to produce (in our spare time with even sparer money), but I’m happy with how it turned out. We’re trying to decide if we want to record the rest of the episodes. I’m for it (as is the cast, etc.) but my friend’s not sure if people will be interested in listening to something like this. We would love any feedback you have to offer. Thank you! [more inside]
Projectionists Draw Projectors
I've been asking all the film projectionists I know (and kind of know, or even ones who I just met) to draw pictures of projectors. It's partly an art project, but it's also intended to be something like a high-speed oral history project around a skill that used to be ubiquitous but isn't so much anymore. [more inside]
DOOM CAKES
This is a blog researching the cinematic tradition in which any beautifully decorated cake serves as a harbinger of imminent catastrophe (often including the destruction of said cake). I also wrote an article about the phenomenon for Random House's film site, Word & Film. [more inside]

POM Wonderful Presents The Greatest Movie Ever Sold
So I've come here a few times to promote films I've produced. I have Morgan Spurlock's POM WONDERFUL PRESENTS THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER SOLD coming out this weekend in theaters across the US. The film has been previously mentioned on MeFi after the premiere at Sundance. It's a documentary about product placement, marketing, and advertising that's funded entirely through product placement, marketing, and advertising. The film is currently sitting at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it's played incredibly well at festivals over the last few months. In the spirit of the film, I'm trying to sell sell sell to get MeFites to see it in theaters this weekend or whenever it comes out in your town.
MostlyFilm, a blog I'm involved with. As the title says, mostly film writing but some other reviews/essays/criticism as well.
So far, writing about: Alex Cox, "Meek's Cutoff", the upcoming "John Carter of Mars", country music in the movies, Herzog and Wenders 3D films, Christian Marclay’s "The Clock", recent CD releases. Oh and, calling Jamie Oliver a big gurning tit and the premise of his new show "colossally stupid and offensive".
Anglofilmia
After realizing I retain historical dates, facts and context a lot more easily if it's presented to me visually, I compiled a list of films related to British history (covering pre-history to The Future) and sorted them chronologically. Now, we're working our way through the list, and blogging about it.

Palate Spasms: No Laughing Matter
I edited and filmed a short film about a strange symptom of my ladyfriend's Multiple Sclerosis. It's entered in the Neurological Film Festival, which has a Fan Voting prize, so if people like it and want to vote for it you can do so here. It's the first thing I've ever shot and edited!
Scenic Beach Fantasy in D (with Unicorn)
I think this pretty much speaks for itself, but it's a teaser for a feature film which I hope to make soon. [more inside]
Art Film Ending
Hidden within every movie is a secret art film. It’s easy to find, as long as you know the right place to stop and fade to black. With a little timing and just the right edit... a story of triumph becomes tragedy, love turns to loss, and every dream becomes a dream deferred. Watch the closing scenes from your favorite movies, and see the art film it could have been. [more inside]

First up: George Romero. [more inside]

Is it Real or Fake 3D?
Single-serving domain name with a simple objective: delineate Fake 3D films (i.e. 2D films upconverted to stereoscopic 3D in post-production) from Real 3D films (i.e. films shot/rendered natively in stereoscopic 3D). Don't get ripped off paying extra fees for an inauthentic 3D Experience.

THUNDER SOUL at more film festivals
I have discussed THUNDER SOUL on MeFi Projects previously when we were premiering at SXSW. The documentary is about the Kashmere Stage Band, the greatest high-school funk band of all time. The film tells the band's amazing story in the 1970s, and follows the band members in the present day as they come back together again to play a reunion concert for their incredible band leader Conrad "Prof" Johnson. I just wanted to let MetaFilter know that we will be screening at the Edinburgh Film Festival, the Seattle Film Festival, and the Los Angeles Film Festival in the upcoming month in case any of you are able to come to the screenings.
