Over 100 local non-chain restaurants with a website
This is not a work of genius, but more just the result of straight effort, and sharing not to seek praise for any kind of brilliance, but just to show it can be done and maybe nudge people toward doing the same: a local resource (Kingston, Ontario in this case) to make and share a list of non-chain restaurants that you don't have to go to Facebook to learn about.
I just got so frustrated with restaurants who think Facebook is an acceptable choice for a web presence, and irritated with myself for going to chains because they were an easy, known factor, that I built this page.
Ideally, I'd like to keep more money in my community, contribute to the death of Meta, and champion homegrown web resources over algorithmic search.
I use Google Sheets and Google Maps, so this isn't going to win any purity tests. But I thought maybe sharing it might nudge a couple more people toward doing likewise. I'd say this was 5-6 hours of work spread over 2-3 months, just picking away at it when I felt like it.
