Brad Story: Aerodreams Sculpture
My dad, a former wooden boatbuilder, is now a sculptor. I've made a website to display his work, which I think is abstract and fascinating. (The sculpture, not the website.)

Tower Hamlets Councillors Compensation
According to UK law, compensation paid to local councillors should be available to the public. While it would be quite reasonable to think that in 2010 this data would be online and easily available, if did believe so you would be wrong. I decided to change this.

Fuck This Weather
The weather should be simple, so it fucking is.

Certificatebuddy.com: gift certificates made simple
Certificatebuddy.com is a web application that allows small businesses to print and track gift certificates. I got frustrated by the lack of such a service when trying to make gift certificates for my girlfriend's online shop, so I made one.

It's Santa Claus vs. Krampus - TO THE DEATH
The Long Yuletide War is a series of short stories I'm working on about the hidden history of that mysterious figure known as Santa Claus and his dark alpine shadow Krampus.

Flash game: Starcom
I just launched my second completed Flash game: Starcom, a space-based action adventure. Pilot a starship defending the galaxy from an encroaching enemy invasion with an increasingly powerful array of armaments and technologies.

Everyday Actionscript
There are many great blogs about cool Actionscript projects -- games, particle systems, etc. I love them and visit them every day. They inspire me. However, few of them impact my day-to-day, prosaic work as an Actionscript developer. So I started a down-to-earth AS blog, on which I post tips and tricks that have helped me with my with my work. It's mostly an info dump for me, so that I don't reinvent wheels. But as it may help out other developers, I'm posting it here.

Now You Know What Its Like
Inspired by Wolfster's AskMe, "Now You Know What It’s Like" is a project which explores how our occupations, passions and life experiences make us think differently. It takes as premise the notion that creativity and analysis are complementary skills, which drive success, innovation and beauty. Through reader-contributed anecdotes, I hope to show how skills used in one field can apply to skills in a variety of others.

FLEE!, a simple flash game
I'm teaching myself AS3/Flash, and this is my first attempt at a game. It's very simple, and has a combinatoric soundtrack based on nine improvised counterpoint-ish things I recorded yesterday.

DIY High-Speed Book Scanner From Trash and Cheap Cameras.
Wish you had all your books in digital form? Well, for a few hundred bucks and a lot of scrounging, you can do it. I just posted plans for a book scanner that uses cheap digital cameras and (with the help of friends) wrote free software to get all your books into the digital domain. There's a complete tutorial at the link above. Currently the software is a work-in-progress. Here's a sample if you're concerned about quality. We can do a lot more with software -- this is just the most basic treatment with alpha software.

The First Annual MetaFilter Interactive Fiction Contest
In order to get people (including myself) into writing some interactive fiction, I set up a challenge during the month of March to write an interactive fiction game like Zork or Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (most submissions in Inform). You can simply play the games or register to become an unofficial judge and vote on the games.

A bunch of geezers blogging
I'm a member of the Monday Evening Club, of Pittsfield, Mass. We are 17 gents who meet eight times a year from fall through spring, for a nice dinner hosted by one member, and the reading of a "paper" presented aloud by another member, followed by discussion. We've been doing this since 1869, but unfortunately the club never archived the more than 2000 papers that have been presented during its first 139 years. So now I've started this blog as an archive (and I'm keeping a paper and offline archive as well). So far there are 15 papers from the current and prior seasons, on a wide range of topics.

Elevyn
Elevyn (pronounced as "eleven") is a place to buy and sell hand-made items produced by indigenous or marginalized communities. Think of it as an eBay or Etsy with a cause; using web 2.0 tools to connect artisans to the worldwide market.

j, a cd command that learns
This one's for the unix nerds; everyone else can move along. Spend a lot of time cd-ing around a complex directory tree? j keeps track of where you’ve been, and how much time you spend there. Source it into your .bashrc, and then you can say j foo to jump to the most used directory that has the substring (actually regex) foo in it, or j foo bar for the directory that has both foo and bar ...

Look At This Cat!
I made Look At This Cat because I figured there are a lot of cats out there that people should look at. And I don't see why that has to involve like crazy Web 2.0 crap when all you really need is some pictures of cats and the ability to say to yourself "hey, look at that, that is one great cat right there".

School of Hard Knocks.
In 2008 I spent some time working in a special classroom for kids with behavior problems in one of Philadelphia's most notorious public high schools, in one of the city's worst neighborhoods. The experience resulted in an seven part web series that tells in great detail what it's like to be inside room 315.

Using Drupal: An O'Reilly book about Drupal
After a year or so in gestation, a project that several friends and I have been working on is finally hitting the streets. We've authored an O'Reilly book about Drupal, the open source content management system, and it's a huge encouragement to see it become reality. Woo hoo!

Interview Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin's interviews sounded like the kind of gibberish one can generate with Markov chains. Markov chains can be used to synthesize new text from some corpus. InterviewPalin.com uses her interview transcripts to generate new interview question answers. It's a lot of fun, and if you find a good one, you can save it for your friends!
