I built a text-based trivia game.

Having taken an 18-month diploma in web programming and not wanting to lose the skills I learned, I decided to create a text-based trivia game on the web. It also somewhat harkens back to the text-based BBS games of yore, which I grew up on. This week, I launched River of Kurn in an alpha state. It's totally playable, though winning conditions haven't yet been implemented. I'd love it if you'd take a look. (Note: not particularly mobile friendly at the moment, but that's coming soon(tm).) True Music Facts Wednesday

On Wednesday, September 4 last year, I sent a friend a piece of music trivia and (jokingly) claimed that it was "just like we do every Wednesday." Then I decided to actually start doing it. Yesterday marked entry 52 - one year of "True Music Facts Wednesday." All 52 entries are posted at the link, and I have previously posted 3 of the stories to the Blue (1, 2, 3). Other favorites include the genesis of the "Amen Break," the story of Vaughn Meader's rise to (and sudden fall from) superstardom, Blues Traveler's hidden-in-plain-sight taunt in "Hook," the story of Jason Everman's stints with two of grunge's biggest bands, the hip hop #1 that was inspired by Spuds MacKenzie, the joke offer that (maybe, almost) reunited John and Paul in 1976, and the accidental, serendipitous creation of "Puff, the Magic Dragon."

Split Decision: a trivia game about decisions, not knowledge

The team I head up just launched an app we've been working on for months. It's called Split Decision: the nonsense vs knowledge game. It's a trivia game where what matters isn’t knowing the answer beforehand, it's choosing right, right now. It’s a nice inversion of what normally matters in quizzes, as the choice mechanic helps get rid of the predestination and futility you can get with Trivial Pursuit et al, and gives the game more pace and fun. Bar Trivia Wiki

Announcement and a question. I love live bar trivia. I have found it impossible to find bar trivia listings and I decided to start a wiki so folks can find bars that host live trivia. Hopefully it's a serviceable resource for people finding local games or games when traveling. I'm both announcing the attempt at something like this, but also asking if folks could help contribute. Thanks MeFi!
