asylum.exe - a retro chase game with a Dr. Mario-esque pill matching mechanic
asylum-exe is a GameMaker-created, retro-styled chase game for Windows in which the goal is to escape each room of a mental institution, being chased the whole way by the proverbial (and literal) men in white coats. 20 levels in which new twists to the game are added frequently.
As you start each room, you are unable to see the stairs that will take you to the next level. In order to achieve the clarity necessary to escape, you must collect pills carelessly scattered on the floor, and match up colours in your personal drug cache. Matching up colours earn you clarity points which eventually will let you see the stairs to find the way out. Each time you enter a new room, you must begin again.
asylum.exe starts off simply, but your situation grows more dire as you progress through each room. Eventually you will deal with hallucinations, moving walls, and other forms of confusion. Experience retro fun with some unexpected twists!
