a foreigners' guide to eremeka arcades - 外国人のためのエレメカアーケードゲームガイド

So much work has gone into documenting the videogame arcade games of Japan, but there was nowhere to learn about the fascinating エレメカ (eremeka; electromechanical) arcade machines. A year of research later and I have documented over 2200 machines. From Canada. (A blog from Japan)

Octropolis

A fast-action scrolling maze game for Android, intended for tablets. Guide an octopus through a huge maze, collecting eggs and avoiding sharks. Consume "mega eggs" to attack the sharks back. Intended as a riff on classic Namco arcade maze games of the 1980s, including Pac-Man and Rally-X. [more inside]

Trichrome, a fast-paced game of tactical pattern making.

Make large triangles out of four smaller ones. It's a simple concept, but you score more points and earn more time by extending your triangle combos into more complex shapes. A completed combo returns a newly upgraded tile, and you match those up the same way. There's a timer, and you push it back by gathering initial tiles. By making different shapes, you can unlock symmetry, mirror and kaleidoscopic bonuses and even capture other tiles to raise your score multiplier up to 20x or more. Most games take about 5-10 minutes to complete. There are 30+ achievements and 3 leaderboards to measure your skill; Game Center supported on iOS and OSX. [more inside]

Chomper 5 - Version 2.0 of my Pac-Man in HTML5 project

Several months ago I linked to my first crack at writing a Pac-Man clone in HTML5. Based on mefite suggestions and my own revision plan, I've completely reworked my original code. Play as Pac-Man, Ms., or Jr., and select from several mazes. Original sound and graphics "borrowed" from MAME emulation. Works best in Chrome and Firefox. [more inside]

Classic Cold War arcade games that never were, "reproduced" in HTML5

The early 1980s could have been a boom time for Cold War-themed arcade games. It wasn't, but what if it had been? On this website I'm using HTML5 to code up USA vs. USSR games that have that early 80s look and feel. [more inside]

Arcade-quality Pac-Man in HTML5

By "arcade-quality", I mean that I captured the graphics and sound from the Pac-Man arcade ROM (via MAME), implemented the original ghost movement strategies, and tried to get the animation as smooth as the original. This implementation includes a high-score board, and can be expanded to accommodate multiple mazes. [more inside]
