Public Domain Photos
If you're looking for public domain photos, the US government is a good place to start. But finding images on a specific topic can be tough, so I've started a directory of photo galleries from various federal agencies. Enjoy!

The Holy War of comedy tours
A Muslim, an Christian, a Hindu, an atheist and a Jew walk into a bar... My Hindu friend Tapan and I have put together a comedy show with five different religions known to clash with one another. We start in Sacramento, and we'll see where it goes from there.

This Day in Type
This Day in Type is a collaborative venue for typographical art that uses the day's date as its subject. Guests submit original artwork for each day of the year. When more than one submission is received, the community votes for the best representative. Screw productivity calendars: it's all about Getting Things Undone!

Metafiltr
It's Metafilter 2.0. Hopefully to blossom as a clearinghouse for absurdist mefi humor, including bizarre flash apps. This is brand-stinking new; if I'm omitting some good self-reflective mefi blogs or stunts or misc. content, please let me know!

Pain Killed
This is a story I wrote for the Philadelphia City Paper about a local father whose son died of an OxyContin overdose in 2001. It details his subsequent six year campaign against Purdue Pharma and his reaction to last week's court ruling that fined the company $600 million and found three executives guilty of criminal charges for making false claims about the drug's addiction risk.

Throttling
An archive of comic book throttling, because there is no sight finer than a man throttling another man, except for maybe an ape throttling a man, or a woman throttling her child.

One pound for RAINN.
The Harvey Girls have released an EP called Declinate through SVC Records. All proceeds, including the label's, are going to the The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network. As usual, it's chock full of mefites: sleepy pete, cortex, and I all contributed; the scintillating iconomy provided beautiful cover art; the sublime taz provided gorgeous web design; and the smoldering DeepFriedTwinkies provided recording space. We love them all, and you too, metafilter.

Esotouric, bus adventures into the secret heart of LA
Our Crime Bus tours are a hoot, but there is so much more to Los Angeles than mad bombers, vitriol throwers, cannibals and fiends. No, really! So we've launched a new site to promote a slew of offbeat city tours, including two literary routes (Raymond Chandler's Los Angeles, John Fante's Dreams of Bunker Hill) and a rock and roll history tour (Riot on Sunset Strip). Architecture is next, so please stay tuned.

Manifests - an album from Josh Millard
I recorded an album in February (as did a few other folks), and I've put together a site to house it. There are song pages with lyrics and background (e.g.); I've scanned my notebook for the month and provided some how-I-work commentary; and there are some drawings to accompany the whole thing as well. The album is available to for listening and download from the site. Please tell all of your powerful and influential music-industry friends.

rendur 2.1
(ren'dûrrr) Write out html and CSS and see it render as you type. Useful when you want to test out some markup or css that's been floating around in your head. The big news is that it now supports internet explorer and is ready to go. (internet explorer is a bad browser and you're a horrible person for using it)

Get Your Droid On!
So, a while back I was contacted by Paul Robb of Information Society to make a music video for one of their new releases. They reformed after being featured on a VH1 reunion show and did some shows, then put together a new album and it is finally going to be released. The other day we unleashed the music video upon the intewebs. It is a mix of various robot footage I found online mixed with people doing the robot. The majority of the dancers are fans who submitted the footage. Please to enjoy.

DemoMarks - Testing the Web
After being sick of signing up for every new "web 2.0" fad that came about just to find out the service was not quite up to par I conceived DemoMarks. Basically I put myself on the chopping block and testdrive all the latest online web applications and products, taking screenshots every step of the way.

As part of the review commenters are given the ability to alter the score of the service based on a few criteria. I'm still building up content so please let me know what comments and criticism y'all have.

mefi universe search engine
I created several custom google co-op search engines, each with matching search extensions. One of them searches the entire mefi universe, including metachat, monkeyfilter, 9622, and the sites of mefi users who volunteer (or are volunteered by others). Tabs let you refine search by the blue, green, etc., and once user sites are added, the results will be weighed so the results will be: main site, fan sites, user sites (or whatever is most popular). This is similar to mathowie's recent offering, but covers more ground (if it's the sort of ground you want covered). Also, a search engine for finding screenplays, an engine for searching all CondeNast sites, and a link to my recently-started blog, where I mostly ruminate on TV and movies.

Sudoku Slam 2.0
We released this project last fall and had a great response: 10000 puzzles served a day, since. We still think it's got the best Sudoku solving UI out there and a lot of great features: saving and sharing puzzles, autofill, two solving modes, "Smart Hints" that explain the logic behind solving moves and help you become a better player, smart undo, and more. We've just added a bunch of new features for the 2.0 release: 1. A new super-hard difficulty level, "Piledriver". 2. Ability to enter in arbitrarily hard external puzzles (such as from your newspaper) and solve them using our nifty interface, getting hints where they are available. 3. An "offline" mode, where you can download a bunch of puzzles and solve them even when you're disconnected from the Internet, such as during a morning commute. 4. More undo options. The site is still utterly ad-free, unlike virtually every other sudoku site out there.

THE MACHINE OF DEATH (predicting)
The machine had been invented a few years ago: a machine that could tell, from just a sample of your blood, how you were going to die. It didn't give you the date and it didn't give you specifics. It just spat out a sliver of paper upon which were printed, in careful block letters, the words "DROWNED" or "CANCER" or "OLD AGE" or "CHOKED ON A HANDFUL OF POPCORN." Well over a year in the making, this fiction anthology based on the premise of a Dinosaur Comic looks like it might actually happen sometime! The organizers are accepting submissions from the public for the next few months.

A Valentine's Day flash game...
Valentine Crush is a game originally slated for a client, but the deal never came through, so I decided to put it online, anyway... Valentine Crush is a takeoff on "The Same Game", but with increasing levels of difficulty, and some new strategy. Instead of clearing the board, you must first remove "target" hearts, and then clear the board. Clearing large groups of hearts gets a bigger bonus, and each target heart in a group is a multiplier. And it has a little opening animation, too... Hope you like it! If you do, please tell friends, or Digg it...

Sea Level Rise Maps
I created this tool last year, but I've recently updated it. By popular demand, it's now possible to embed a flood map on your own web-site.
