Experience Vermont as a local, through interviews and tours
We want to introduce folks to the amazing artists and craftspeople that call Vermont home, and I’ve been interviewing them in a new YouTube series. I (and sometimes terrapin) also share a weekly tip or recipe from our own craft hobbies, primarily brewing, cooking, knitting, and dyeing. This week’s videos feature an interview with MeFi’s own Jessamyn West, and her tutorial on making your own mossarium. [more inside]

PrepaidAfrica Discussion Series
The Prepaid Economy: African edition began as a means to track notes on the rise of Africa as an investment opportunity back in January 2010. Today it has over 28,000 readers on Tumblr, engaging an audience of young Afropolitans. We will be beginning a new series of discussion posts where engagement from our readers is encouraged. This Friday (25th January) we will be having our very first moderated conversation and the topic at hand will be “China’s presence in Africa.”
If there are any particular article links or thoughts that you would like to see addressed in the discussion, feel free to share them and we’ll be sure to integrate them into the post. We look forward to hearing your input and hosting a productive conversation on the effects of China’s presence in Africa. Your moderator will be Beulah Osueke, currently Masters Degree student at LaSalle University, Philadelphia

We Chinese - street portraits and interviews about China and its future
This project grew out of a curiosity to find out what Chinese people think about their country and their future. In 2010, I traveled to major urban centers in eastern China stopping people on the street to ask the same two questions about their country and their future: "What does China mean to you?" and "What is your role in China's future?" The respondents filled out a one-page typewritten questionnaire that included these two questions and some basic information including name, age, and occupation. The questions were interpreted variously, and the responses range from prosaic to poetic, from rote to inspired, and from unemotional to patriotic. While it’s difficult to draw conclusions about the entire population, the people photographed here expressed a sincere love of country and optimism about the country’s future development and peaceful position in the world. The final project incorporates about 100 portraits/interviews and includes people of various ages, gender, wealth, and hometown. For each person in the project, between five and ten declined to be photographed or fill out the questionnaire. You can read more about the project here.
The Marketplace of Ideas
A public radio program and podcast dedicated to in-depth conversation with thinkers and creators. It emphasizes equally the ideas and the people behind them, and those people have included 43Folders founder Merlin Mann, "mumblecore" director Andrew Bujalski, New Yorker fiction critic James Wood, Bookworm host Michael Silverblatt, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. I've aired over 100 interviews so far, most about an hour long, and I show no signs of stopping.
Circle Into Square Online Magazine
I've been undertaking a series of interviews at Circle Into Square called 'Everybody Knows You're Not from Here' for about the last year. Subjects interviewed live in the Portland, OR, area and include Ian from the music blog Musicophilia and mastermind of the 1981 box set, the married duo of writer and comic artist Sara Ryan and Steve Lieber, rockers Wow & Flutter, and a dude we all know who really likes donuts. I've just started another series called 'Not Quite 20 Questions' with the inaugural interview being Kliph Scurlock, drummer for The Flaming Lips. [more inside]
