A VR Schizophrenia Simulator for Us All
My senior year of college, I had a mental crisis of sorts. I was struggling with intrusive thoughts and was afraid that I’d blurt them out loud in class, thereby humiliating myself and inflicting emotional damage on both myself and my peers. I became convinced I had schizophrenia, although I wasn’t exhibiting any of the symptoms...

Good Spirits
Good Spirits is a drink tracker for iOS. Ever since learning about the correlation between drinking and various kinds of cancer, I've been meticulous about logging and tracking every drink I consume. Good Spirits makes this process easy: just set a weekly limit, check in your drinks, and the app will let you know when you're in the danger zone. For the craft beer drinkers, you can automatically pull new check-ins from Untappd. Free and soon-to-be open source!

Media literacy videos
Just thought I'd keep MeFites updated on the progress of The Media Show, my show on media literacy, as people seem to have been interested in past episodes. We recently posted an episode on health claims in advertisements, as well as a more thoughtful meditation on whether recent ads using the Muppets violated the spirit in which Jim Henson created them. Earlier this year we made two videos on what it means to be a hacker, one with TV-B-Gone inventor Mitch Altman and one with 2600 editor Emmanuel Goldstein. And we're also particularly proud of our episode on how important spelling is online -- titled Syntax Terror -- which is a riff on a the old Kermit The Frog Tee Shirt sketch from Sesame Street and features the vocal stylings of MeFi's Own Yoz. Enjoy, and let me know if you end up using any of these with your students!
The Good Men Project
“The Good Men Project is a glimpse of what enlightened masculinity might look like in the 21st century,” the press raved when we launched, and that was exactly what we were hoping for. Finally, “a cerebral, new media alternative” to glossy men’s magazines was born. In fact, The Good Men Project is not so much a magazine as a social movement; an ongoing in-depth discussion that has by now involved millions of people, all getting back to a core question of “what does it mean to be a good man in these modern times?”. Hear You Me
any comments, feedback, or ideas would be greatly appreciated! this is a first attempt at creating an online place where people going through experiences like depression and social anxiety can connect. i really wanted to emphasize location so that eventually people who use the site are encouraged to meet up in real life, and also because location itself is a kind of shared experience. my hope for the site is that people can talk about what they're going through and really have people there listening. i also hope people can find peers or mentors who can support them over the long term. please feel free to spread the word and thanks for your time! i hope to hear from you.
