I've been looking for a good place for deeper discussion of great films and TV shows. I saw this thread in AskMeFi and checked out the criterion forum, but found it lacking. Secret Metafilter highlights discussions that are still active on older Metafilter posts. The idea comes from Metafilter user painquale, who wished there was a way to easily find older, active threads, and called the body of such threads "Secret Metafilter." [more inside]

I wrote a site which allows you to join or create chat/discussion threads from your smartphone/tablet/pc (chrome, newer firefox). I was going for something that you can use to allow people to communicate ad-hoc, or to set something up for a place/event as needed and then forget about it when you are done using it. Everything runs inside the web browser so there are no apps to download, you can navigate away from a thread and come back to the main site to rejoin where you left off. No personal information is collected and anything you post will get removed in four hours. Let me know what you think.

An ad-hoc, location-specific messageboard. Grabs your location and creates a messageboard based on messages sent by the people around you; the more messages there are near you, the more geographically-focused your messageboard is. Hopefully useful as a backchannel for conference talks, protest demonstrations and more. Photos, files, OpenID, ActivityStreams and APIs to come.
