I had the idea for this twitterbot when I was tweeting from Flagged as Fantastic (here's the exact tweet; Mefi project post here) - I jokingly tweeted out, 'Very Metafilter'. Then I realized I could gather and tweet out some of the wonderful site lore, in-jokes, memorable lines, and ephemera from an automated Twitter account.

Since then, I've been experimenting with the script, adding things, and removing some jokey tweets that didn't land right in the context of appearing in my timeline, but I think it's pretty settled now, so I'm ready to introduce it to a wider audience.

Frequency: Every 3 hours.

Note: There are some swear words and adult colorful imagery, so it is not G-rated.

Tools: Cheap Bots, Done Quick!, Tracery Tutorial (Crystal Code Palade), Twitter account, me brain

Role: programmer, writer, humorist, Metafilter magpie

Plus multiple appearances of "Christ, what an asshole", "A professional white background", "This will not wendell", "WHAT. THE. FUCK. MATT?", "Does anybody read the posts down here?" and (appropriately) "Double".

Yet no "Eponysterical" in its first 24 days in operation? This bot needs a tune-up. I'm not asking, just guessing.

Yeah I have a bunch of taglines in the script, but for some reason the random things that keep getting tweeted out are not the taglines - they're the one-liners. So... not sure how to correct this so that more of the taglines (and I have *a bunch* of them) get more play...

I would love to have a space to talk projects - I believe the idea was floated in MetaTalk recently, it would be great to have somewhere to spitball. Anyways - I hear the feedback and will tweak the bot.

Update: I've changed the script and it seems to be randomly choosing MetaFilter taglines I put in way more frequently now, so let's see how this goes. Not sure why that would be I may drop the cheap bots done quick guy a line.
