A Castle Built From Random Rooms
A Castle Built From Random Rooms is a Fighting Fantasy-style text adventure (which should be playable in any browser) set in a castle built from random rooms. Can you find your way through the labyrinth and escape... with your LIFE! (and also some treasure).

Made using TWINE, this game features:

- randomised character generation with variable stats that affect gameplay in multiple different ways
- over 10 random rooms to play
- a fairly simplistic battle system
- several secrets
- multiple endings
- multiple deaths
- a couple of funny jokes
- and also occasionally some cats

Plus some lovely repurposed old book illustrations from the late 19th/early 20th century.

(PS: If you like this, you might like some of my previous text adventures, a few of which have been on metafilter before, such as Saturday Afternoon Ikea Trip Simulator, Fifteen Monsters All In A Row, and The Coin Toss World Cup.)

Just ran into something that might be an error?

Just gave the girl a tiny diamond, and now my screen is blank.

On Chrome, Windows 11, but on a computer managed by my organization so if this issue is unique it's probably due to that even though I've died successfully plenty of times.

This game is repetitive, but it's fun to explore!

Ah, sorry about that. Somehow I managed to upload an older file. It should be fixed now. Thank you!

Also, thanks for giving this a go, and I'm glad you've been enjoying it (bugs notwithstanding). Cheers (and thanks again for finding that bug - you should be able to finish the game now...)

Just won! Except I didn't win, because there's things on the final page I didn't see. So, once more unto the breach!
