Thanks for that. I read Auel's books as a teenager and loved them. Now, whenever I think of them I do feel somewhat mocking towards them, but I don't know why. Okay, so it isn't historically accurate, but I don't think it was ever expected to be, it was a fantasy history story. And if we are okay with exceptional male heroes who create everything why do we so object when female characters do the same.

I guess it is the same as so many other things, things for male consumption are awesome, but lets mock things women enjoy.
I never actually got around to reading the last book published, but maybe it is time to revisit Ayla's story.
