Phosphates, Fizzes and Frappes
A Tumblr blog about the golden age of soda fountains (roughly 1890-1920). The blog includes vintage recipes, soda fountain history, and more.
Soda fountain specialties of the past such as the Snowball Parfait, Grape Cooler and Napa Orange soda are tasted and reviewed. (I'm taking one for the team, here... I know, I know, it's a big sacrifice.) Come up to the counter and try a Cherry Phosphate! It's good for your health.

Yeah, I kept going back and forth on it. I probably will change it back to the more standard layout. Thanks!

Wow, I just read that Serious Eats link, and it's directly relevant to an already-written post I have coming up in a couple of days. Neat.

(While I remember also: a recent SE post on the egg cream.)

The only problem with this is that I have been conditioned by Amazon et al. that I can just click a button for ordering and I want a Cherry Frozen Cream Shake NOW.

I know what you mean. What might be worse is that I have all the ingredients right now and I have to keep myself from making one. Torment!

This is great! An olde-timey-style soda fountain just opened up in my neighborhood but I haven't yet discovered if they actually have any olde-timey stuff on the menu, I should go check that out.

There is apparently one here in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle now. I need to check it out. I'd like to open my own, though. :)
Stay tuned for some really tasty sundaes coming up on the blog soon. I've tried a few that I don't think I would have tried otherwise, and they are all really really good. It's nice to get out of the "chocolate/hot fudge" pattern, as much as I do like chocolate.

(One nit: I find the 3-column layout of the front page a bit confusing; I ended up going to the month archive then clicking through to read each one at full width.)
