Random D&D Character
This site generates random Basic (Moldvay/Mentzer), Holmes, or Original D&D characters. It's a little web application written and designed by me in Python. You can add "text" to the end of any URL to get a plaintext character sheet.

Role: Programmer
Every character has a THAC0 of 19 for some odd reason and it doesn't update with strength as it should. Also doesn't have learned spells for mages just the one that they have memorised. Otherwise neat way to make some NPC's
Edit oops must have not noticed that the THAC0 was changing but now it is working.

Some people don't play with mages knowing all first level spells to start. That's why it just picks one. (I'm assuming people have the rule books, so if picking a spell wasn't important, they could just take all 8 or 12 depending on edition.)
If you notice any other bugs please let me know, thanks!

Somehow, it rolled me up a Magic-User with zero hitpoints. His CON of 3 probably had something to do with it.

Obviously, this is amazing. I just added it to my phone home screen -- you might want to think about designing a phone-friendly icon for others doing the same thing.

Sweet. I saw this on one of the OD&D boards, but didn't realize you were Metafilter's own.

I posted it to OD&D74 forum. You might have saw it there? The zero-HP bug was something I thought I fixed. It's supposed to have a 1 HP minimum. (And I see the error now: it shouldn't do that anymore.) I'll try and find a good icon for iPhone home screens. I hadn't thought of that.

Oh, also the big TODO is generating demi-humans. Right now this thing will never make Dwarves, Halflings, and Elves.

Has a little icon, thanks to Henry Justice Ford.

Probably not: I think the game is way too complicated for this sort of thing.
