The Interior of Mister Bumblethorn's Coat, now on PodCastle
My fantasy short story, The Interior of Mister Bumblethorn's Coat, was published by PodCastle yesterday. The story originally appeared in Fantasy Magazine, and was also reprinted in The Year's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy 2011, edited by Rich Horton.

Lois Tilton, writing for Locus Online, described the story as "a nightmarish vision inhabited by grotesques... For a brief moment, it skirts the edge of conventional heroic fantasy but rapidly turns darker."

Nader Elhefnawy, in his review of The Year's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy 2011, had this to say:
Essentially, an exploration of Bumblethorn's situation, the imaginative richness and vivid detailing of the course his life has taken, and the place where he now finds himself (unmatched in this volume for sheer trippiness) – and what is more, Bumblethorn's humanity – combine to make it memorable.
You can read my own thoughts on the story, including the process of writing it, in this interview.

Oh! Yay! I got The Year's Best... and loved all the stories a lot. "Sheer trippiness" is a good descriptor for "Mister Bumblethorn's." I really enjoyed the story and am happy to learn that you are MeFi's Own!

Thanks, librarina! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the story. Also, this is the first time anyone has called me MeFi's Own, which is thrilling!
