Lloydtube: Lloyd Dobler's boombox meets youtube
Sometimes you just need Lloyd Dobler to stand with a boombox held over his head as he stubbornly, earnestly yearns, with Peter Gabriel playing. Or maybe Lady Gaga. Or Black Eyed Peas. Or like Wagner or whatever, I dunno. Lloyd loves you no matter what you feel like listening to.

youtube is blocked for me at work -- so when I tried this, it looks normal but just gives me silence...which, after goring through the trouble of putting my headphones in, is really creepy.

Can you imagine if Jon Cusack -- especially now, many years post but still post Gross Pointe Blank -- stood outside your window with a boombox but in silence. Creeptastic.

But since I can imagine music, I can also say this is great. Because I love the way it looks.

That movie came out three years too soon.

Audio fails for videos with embedding disabled. It'd be nice if there was some error feedback in these situations.

Nevertheless, it is awesome.

Yeah, the site makes almost no effort to do anything clever or fail elegantly: it doesn't check for embed permissions, it doesn't process odder youtube URLs correctly (and just panics and fails back to Peter Gabriel instead), doesn't give warnings for flash or adblock or so on. Lots of ways for it to not quite work.

There's a very good reason for all that, and it's that I am a lazy person who didn't want to put in more than a necessary minimum of work. If nothing else, it's a nostalgic animated gif, I figure.
