The Rumpus Book Club
We've started a book club over at The Rumpus. Members of the book club get books before they're released, participate in discussions on the site, and chat with the author of the book at the end of the month just before the book's publication. The basic idea is that we're choosing good, literary books that you wouldn't have heard of otherwise, often published by smaller presses.

A lot of the subscribers live in places where there aren't good independent bookstores and are joining because they trust us, I hope. It seems there used to be more conversation about these kind of books, really good literary books that aren't the top of the publishers list, that aren't celebrity memoirs, written by authors that weren't given a huge advance. In other words, books that you heard about because they were good, from people who had no ulterior motives. It's harder, I think, for people to find these gems buried under all the platform books where the writing is really secondary. I'd love to know what you guys think about this idea.
