dvafoto.com - discussing interesting photojournalism, photography, and journalism
New, interesting, and hidden gems in photojournalism and photography. The site features interviews with compelling photographers and photography that needs to be seen, in addition to many other features.
dvafoto.com began as a shared photoblog run by Matt Lutton and M. Scott Brauer. Since our launch in 2006, we've transitioned to a site featuring new, interesting, and undiscovered photojournalism and photography, in addition to photography-related news and information. We also periodically feature interviews with photojournalists who produce compelling visual journalism on the front-lines or in their home countries. January 2010 begins the next phase of dvafoto, which will include more interviews, book reviews, and galleries from outside contributors, in addition to a radical redesign of the site. We've just unveiled a Visual Archive of the site to highlight our history of posts.
Not to be missed: We've just published an interview I conducted with Christopher Morris from the photo agency VII, one of the most highly respected and awarded groups of photographers documenting global conflict today. Morris' videos of the Bush and Obama administration are deeply emotive looks at the facade and behind-the-scenes goings-on of the American presidency. They're completely unlike any news video you've seen before. Check out our other interviews, while you're at it.
If you're a photographer: We maintain a google calendar of deadlines for photo contests, grants, and exhibitions' calls for entry.
If you want to see some interesting, provocative photography from around the world: Check out The Talent, our list of photographers, agencies, collectives, and magazines producing great photojournalism. We have a full text list, in addition to the visual list. I could spend days looking at all of these people's work...it's some of the best photojournalism and photography there is to be had.
We also feature our own work. Matt Lutton's work ranges from the destruction of a Roma camp in Belgrade to the first year of Kosovo's independence to the Obama inauguration. My own work, from China and the US, ranges from the anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre to China's zoos to consumerism in China to a pow-wow in Montana to flaming daredevils and the Gobi Desert.

Really nice site. My only gripe is that the layout is pretty damn wide.
