The Manhattan Wonderwalk!
I'm working on the production of the Manhattan Wonderwalk - a 14-hour, 15-mile walk exploring the ongoing piece of art that is the Island of Manhattan.
The Manhattan Wonderwalk begins at 10am at the northwestern tip of Manhattan (think Cloisters) and ends in the middle of The Brooklyn Bridge at midnight. Along the way there will be informal discussions, performances, camaraderie and the occasional legitimate tour guide. The walk is designed to encourage looking at the Island of Manhattan as an ever-changing work of art.
The cost is $10 and with that ticket, you will receive a PDF of the map (sent within two days of the walk) which will include specific points and times where you can pick up the walk with the group. Though I will be walking the entire 14 hours, you can pick whatever portion you'd like to join us for.
We will visit familiar spots and little known pathways; we'll see gorgeous public art and mundane displays of beauty. There will also be performances and presentations along the way. You may walk part of the way, all the way, or pledge others who are walking.
Tickets can be purchased here.
The walk will benefit the Secret City, a monthly sanctuary for artists and other conscious, creative people. Part cabaret, part art-church, part salon, each service has a different theme and features live performance, presentation and original work. Chris Wells is the founder of the Secret City and the creative mind behind each monthly service as well as the Wonderwalk. He's a performance artist, musician, and all around amazing guy. Check out his site here.

Hey, that's great! We'll have to make sure we meet each other!
That's the beauty of the map - you can choose the length of time and neighborhood in which you walk.
We are working out the specifics on performances and the final route and it's going to be amazing. No matter what happens, it will be unlike any Saturday you've ever spent in Manhattan.

The event was amazing. We got great press in Time Out New York and through word of mouth, and we sold 120 tickets. At one point, there were 45 of us walking down 6th Ave from Central Park to Bryant Park! We were no less than 25-30 walkers at any point, and we had vacationers join us from as far away as Dubai and Melbourne.
It really was just a great day. The weather held out, there were music and art performances throughout the day, and, man, we walked. We started at 10am in Ft Tryon Park at 190th on the NW tip of Manhattan, and walked to the SE corner, ending at the Brooklyn Bridge at midnight. I am uploading my pics up tonight to Flickr, and we will be updating the WonderWalk website in the coming days with pics, videos, the list of performers, and stories of the day.
Already planning next year's event!
