Ivy League Elitists
In the Palin and Pancakes thread, Miko had many great posts, including one that exposed the hypocrisy of calling liberals "Ivy League Elitists," since so many conservatives are actually from Ivy League Schools. Several people said that this post would be a good meme, so I grabbed the domains and set it up.

Any nominations for a nonprofit group to donate ad revenue to?

I haven't thought much about it yet, but some come to mind: MoveOn.org, Common Dreams, United Negro College Fund (a scholarship connection makes sense for this topic)...

Not sure why it would need to. The point is to demonstrate that despite anti-Ivy League rhetoric, the GOP draws on talent trained in Ivy League and other elite schools just as their opponents do. Since this is a response to their message, I'm not sure this site needs to restate their message (the "About" section mentions that objective).

But if for some reason folks think it would be helpful, I suppose it could happen.

Heh. I'm glad someone properly webified this; it was a wonderfully strong "uh, seriously?" moment in the thread, Miko.

Your links to the Obama and Mccain in the side bar give a 404.

http://www.ivyleagueelitists.com/www.barackobama.com

is the address it's trying to go for.

And I think having the Obama stuff up there would be good as well, since this would show that a lot of politicians are Ivy Leaguers. I know you're pointing out the hypocrisy, but if you show a larger pool it will only help prove the point.

Um, this makes me like them more? I'd rather know the anti-elite rhetoric is hollow; it makes it less scary?

cjorgensen:

Thanks, I've fixed them.

This is great. Shouldn't distinguished Yale scholar George W. Bush himself be on the list?

I'm also inclined towards including Democratic Ivy Leaguers, with -- since the page's stated purpose is to refute the claim that only one "side" has these people on the team -- the default page display being Republican staffers, and Democratic ones viewable with a button. Even if there are more Ivy Leaguers on one "side" than the other, the effort of counting/comparing will surely drive the message home, and nobody can accuse you of being unfair.

This is fabulous! Thanks to Miko and tomierna.

I think, given current conditions, the front page would have more rhetorical oomph if the McCain campaign list came before the Bush list.

Also, it would be great to have another page of derogatory "Ivy League" quotes. When I get a chance, I'll start poking around.

I tried to start such a page, titled "Elite-A-Palooza," but I'm totally new at texpattern so I think I got it wrong. I'll try again tomorrow. I love this project, but welcome a whole lot of community involvement, since I'm also supposed to be kind of, you know, working during most of the time I hang out on MeFi. This could benefit from a collective build.

I'm in, if research needs to be done.
