Art Inconnu
A blog featuring artworks and artists who are little known, perhaps under-appreciated and in some cases forgotten by the mainstream. After years spent pursuing my passion for collecting auction catalogues and searching online sales and archives for interesting works by so-called "minor" artists (and purchasing the odd affordable piece) I felt it was time to collate some of the images and personalities I have collected and learned about along the way.
Sometimes that takes the form of just a handful of brilliant works from an otherwise mediocre career, perhaps a lesser known aspect of an artist's oeuvre, or occasionally an entire career which has somehow slipped off the radar. I will also touch on movements and artists from countries not immediately associated with the major developments in 19th and 20th century art.
I am by no means offering up newly "rediscovered" artists daily, but hopefully there is a good selection of work from a variety of countries, and a few works you will not have come across before.
