DC Comics courts independent artists
DC Comics launched Zuda, an online Thunderdome for unsigned comic artists interested in getting into the big leagues. The site's model is interesting: artists pitch projects via the web site, then visitors vote on and discuss which ones are the most promising. The winners of that phase are developed into log-running webcomic projects by DC editors with big-label quality control and management. Many of the initial submissions are by artists and writers already active in the industry, but there are a number of dark horses, too. (I only did a bit of consulting late in the project's development, but I felt twitchy about posting it to the blue. In any case, enjoy...)
