The Neverending Conflict

A dark fantasy YA serial fiction and game design website. I'm writing a story about teenagers who fight monsters on an alternate Earth where the existence of magic and monsters is an everyday fact of life. The most basic elevator pitch is "What if, in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, everyone knew Buffy was the Slayer? And also there were many Slayers, and everyone knew about all of them?" There's a lot more to it than that, of course, but that's the basic idea. I'm also working on a game based on the 5th Edition Open Gaming License of Dungeons and Dragons set in the same world. I hope it proves to be a fun distraction from what ails you. [more inside]

A Year of Stories: Cobalt Blue

At the beginning of the year I decided to write one short story, every weekday, until December 31st (260 stories). To help motivate me, I'm releasing twelve Collections of these stories on Amazon. I've been at this since January, and so far I'm 135 stories in. This is Collection one, if you like it, it would be awesome if you could leave a review. Also, if you're interested in following the project in real-time, you can see all the stories here.

The hats of your mortal enemies, turned inside-out and used as flowerpots

A Tumblr with one list a day, almost completely unburdened by truth or common sense. Some examples: nine notable letters and marks; seven guests not to invite to your party; seven lesser-known pirate hoards; three light meals; the seven great societies of time travellers; Instructions for Those Who Wish To Take the Path Through the City and Emerge Unscathed on the Other Side; four lesser-known English Explorers of the Early Victorian Period; six proposals for a transient architecture.

The Unhappy Bride and other tales

An unhappy bride weeps beneath the moon on her wedding night. A priest who should know better leaves the safety of his church to follow a cat out into the city and see where it is it goes. A lonely girl sits at her window and wishes, just once, to go to the ball. And is that the devil on the road, waiting for you as you make your way home… The Unhappy Bride and other tales is a collection of contemporary fairy tales, in which you'll find Queens and Kings, wolves and cats, the devil himself, even the stars made flesh. You’ll find love here, too, so much love. And with it always sadness. [more inside]

Al'Rashad

A page-a-week webcomic which I have been working on with the fabulously talented Davinder Brar since 2010, currently at just under 200 pages and three-quarters of the way through chapter 7 of 8. MAY OR MAY NOT CONTAIN: Viking analogues, undeads, mouthy street urchins, horrendously giant baddies, flying carpets, lack of flying carpets, magic runes, monkeys, monsters, PoC heroes, treachery, pirates, and true love. Wander: Olive Hopkins and the Ninth Kingdom

I was fortunate enough to be part of the first wave of Monkeybrain Comics' digital initative with my new monthly series Wander, featuring art by Grace Allison and letters by Josh Krach. The first arc, entitled Wander: Olive Hopkins and the Ninth Kingdom explores what happens when a thoroughly modern 20-something finds herself plunged into a fantasy world straight out that section of Barnes & Noble she always avoided. A strip explaining the concept for the first arc is available here and there's also an eight-page preview of our first issue on the Monkeybrain site. You can buy the 22-page comic directly from Comixology's website or through the app on your mobile device for $1.99 if if you so desire. [more inside]

He didn't kill a soul that he didn't proceed to revive.

I had set out to write a fun story absolutely filled to the brim with the undead, and in order to make room I had to leave out all of the forced pathos of survivors screaming "maybe we're the monsters!" Last February I posted my serialized online novel, Codex Nekromantia, to Projects. Many long months of tweaking and proofreading later, I'm happy to announce that it has been published! The ebook is available from today, but the paperback edition is delayed by a week due to Hurricane Irene fiddling with the power lines at the printing facility. Which is only fitting, considering that the book documents an (un)natural disaster.
