Making a watermelon chair from green wood
I started making colourful stools for kids a couple of years ago in my spare time. Recently I was part of a project to film the process, and this is the result :). The link above goes to a short little teaser and some still photos, or you can go here for the whole video.
I live in northern Sweden and went to a woodworking school a few years ago. I mostly just tinker with various things in my spare time, but about a year ago I decided to start making a series of fruit stools (I wish there was a better word in English for a small chair!) after one I made for fun had a great reaction with some children.
The process is fairly traditional, almost all hand tools, with the legs added just before the seat has finished drying so the final shrinkage of the seat helps to make the joints even stronger.
Let me know what you think!
