8+ Years of Painting Slideshow
Since about 2014 I have been trying to learn to paint, specifically with acrylics. If you ever wondered what an 8+ year timeline of paintings might look like, the good and the bad and the very bad, the steps forward and the steps backward, then I have made one of those.

These 165ish paintings represent about 85% of all the paintings completed during this time. There are a few from 2009 on, but the more earnest practice began in 2014, and then again in 2018 and there has been more consistent output in the last few years. I am considering doing a new version with a voiceover (never done one of those, tho), and maybe including notes on every painting instead of just the selected ones.

Several of these years started with a "Paint Every Day in January" challenge, which I completed several times. [This blog post shows the January collections from 2022 and 2018.] But it's always been difficult to keep going, what with life and maybe some attention-span issues.

I find progress/process videos and details so interesting, so I am posting this for other people who find that stuff interesting too. Perhaps your own artistic pursuits have followed a similarly halting arc.

Thank you, though my longest streak was probably about 40 days, with a lot of missed days and sometimes months.

Cool to see your work develop over time! I can see as the paintings develop more dimensionality, nuance and complexity, and as you move back and forth toward and away from realism. Thanks for sharing this!

Nice work Glinn. You especially seemed to have developed a knack for faces and conveying the person within. Very well done!

I really enjoyed all of these, but confess to a special affection for the whack-a-doodle creatures you started out with. It was neat to see how your affinity for colors and slightly off-beat angles and perspectives remained as your work technically matured. Thanks so much for sharing.
