Between Seasons on the North Head Trail
A longform visual essay (3000 words, 50 photos, and a song) about walking the historic North Head Trail in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. A tromp through local history, freezing rain, macrophotography, fog, a cholera hospital, moonlight hikes, tourists, foxes, and optical phenomena.

I'm a writer, photographer, and web designer, and wanted to tackle a project that let me combine all these things.

Between Seasons was inspired by multimedia essays such as Koya Bound and Body of Water, and by books such as Robert Macfarlane's The Old Ways, Nan Shepherd's The Living Mountain, and Alexandra Horowitz's On Looking: A Walker's Guide to the Art of Observation.
Role: writer / photographer / designer / coder

I really liked the little map moving and tracing the path. Very subtle, but it made me go up and down a few times to watch it move and match the photos to it.
